WWE Over the Limit Odds: Breaking Down Each Match of the Over the Limit PPV
Hello Bleacher Creatures, Rize here with my latest slideshow.
We’re now slightly over 24 hours away from the second annual WWE Over the Limit pay per view. Unlike Extreme Rules, a majority of fans are writing the event off as “predictable.”
Over the Limit comes just three weeks after Extreme Rules and like most WWE pay per view, hasn’t acquired the proper time to build towards the matches. Nonetheless, Over the Limit should be a great pay per view with the clash of angles set to take place.
From Mason Ryan and Ezekiel Jackson’s reluctant behavior lately to the question of if The Miz can make John Cena say I Quit.
Brie Bella will defend her title against Kelly Kelly in a match where the fans are focused on Kharma than the match itself.
The clash of Latinos in Sin Cara vs. Chavo Guerrero with RAW’s newest feud, R-Truth and Rey Mysterio fresh out of management's office. Jerry Lawler will take on Michael Cole for the third time while Lawler’s HOF ring is on the line in a “Kiss my Foot” match.
Despite this, the real story is the Randy Orton vs. Christian match for the World Championship.
Here are match breakdowns for the Over the Limit card.
WWE Divas Championship: Brie Bella vs. Kelly Kelly
1 of 8
This match was announced on this week’s Smackdown. Kelly defeated Brie Bella with a roll up on Monday Night RAW.
As soon as the match concluded, Kharma made her way to the squared circle. Sights set on Kelly Kelly, Kharma was attacked by the Bella Twins. The newcomer made quick work of the duo and finished the beatdown with an Implant Buster.
Brie fled the ring as Nikki was on the receiving end of the maneuver.
Kharma attention returned to Kelly but only flicked Kelly’s forehead before leaving the ring.
Kelly win ultimately led to a scheduled rematch for the Championship at Over the Limit. Will Kharma make her presence felt Sunday? Why did she leave Kelly Kelly unharmed? Are the Bella Twins stepping stones for the reign of Kharma?
We’ll have to wait and see.
Sin Cara vs. Chavo Guerrero
2 of 8
This match is going to surprise all of us. Sin Cara made his debut a few weeks back taking on the likes of Primo, Tyson Kidd, The Miz, and Alex Riley. Cara was drafted to Smackdown through the 2011 WWE Draft.
Cara is Triple H’s project and the entrance botches on RAW caused the move. Since SmackDown doesn’t air live, if Cara makes a mistake, it can be edited out.
During a match with Tyson Kidd, Chavo Guerrero took to the commentating booth. Guerrero accused Sin of being a thief as he stole Chavo’s moves.
The Mexican heroes shook hands after the match. Sin Cara’s next opponent would be Daniel Bryan. In a closely contested bout, Cara won after interference by Chavo.
Sin saw the interference on the replay and shoved Guerrero to the ground.
The Mexican Warrior announced that he was taking on Sin at Over the Limit. Guerrero also guaranteed he would defeat Daniel Bryan in five minutes only to fail in the end. Sporting his new T-shirt, Sin made his way to the ring and silenced Guerrero with a huracanrana.
This match is going to be a Hispanic specialty.
Sin Cara skipped FCW and isn’t familiar with the WWE style of pro wrestling. This makes it difficult for him and his opponents. On the other hand, Chavo Guerrero is a veteran luchador. The combination equals a phenomenal match this Sunday.
Their matches on the tour of Mexico received rave reviews. Just imagine how great it’s going to be when it’s on pay per view television.
Jerry Lawler vs. Michael Cole
3 of 8
The classic Kiss My Foot match makes its long awaited return at Over the Limit. The last time we saw this match was when Bret Hart and Jerry Lawler were in the middle of their heated rivalry.
The Hitman defeated Lawler and shoved his and Lawler’s feet in the King's mouth. That was more than a decade ago and Lawler’s new foe has commentated with him for years.
The self-proclaimed Voice of the WWE is undefeated in competition. A disqualification win at WrestleMania 27 and a roll up has left Michael Cole 2-0 in the WWE.
Each occasion, Jerry Lawler has missed an opportunity to give Michael Cole exactly what he deserves.
A well deserved beatdown from the King.
And to think, this all started because of Michael Cole's obsession with The Miz.
Another factor to consider is that this time Jack Swagger won’t be in Cole's corner.
This match is a must-win for Lawler as Cole is wrestling his last match and Lawler’s HOF ring is on the line. Michael Cole has promised if he does win at Over the Limit, he’ll gloat with the Legends ring to the RAW audience.
Who’s walking out with a mouthful of feet this Sunday?
WWE Tag Team Championship: CM Punk and Mason Ryan vs. Big Show and Kane
4 of 8
Kane and The Big Show have moved on from Corre and Smackdown to New Nexus and RAW. Being that the tag titles can be defended on both brands, Kane and Big Show have competed in a series of matches with Nexus members.
The real story surrounds the enigma known as Mason Ryan. In a match with Kane, Ryan decimated Show and Kane with a slideslam and a spear.
Ryan left his group in the ring afterwards.
Mason has grown reluctant towards Punk and New Nexus as of late. It seems to have started when Punk thwarted a punt attempt by Ryan on a prone Randy Orton. Punk ended up on the receiving end of an RKO as Mason watched carelessly.
Big Show and Kane retaliated by destroying each member of New Nexus. The Second City Saint announced that Over the Limit will be a turning point for Nexus and will mark the end for Kane and Big Show.
Will Punk snap his PPV losing streak? What about Ryan and his attitude towards Nexus? Are Big Show and Kane stepping stones for a new angle?
Intercontinental Championship: Wade Barrett vs. Ezekiel Jackson
5 of 8
Like his RAW counterpart Mason Ryan, Ezekiel Jackson had slowly grown out of his stable. Jackson grew reluctant towards his fellow members as the weeks passed.
Along with Jackson, Gabriel was indifferent towards Barrett to a point where he eliminated him in a battle royal. Gabriel and Barrett eventually resolved their issues while Jackson’s reluctance disappeared.
Multiple losses for the group eventually led to Jackson’s indifference to Corre to rise again.
After Corre aided Zeke in a win over Big Show, Jackson walked out on the group. The other members jumped Jackson backstage and claimed that Zeke wouldn’t walk away without proper dismissal. After decimating Kane, Ezekiel attempted to exact revenge.
Despite dominating Corre in the beginning moments, Jackson was on the receiving end of a 450 splash from Justin Gabriel.
Barrett challenged Jackson to a match while Heath Slater suggested Barrett put the Intercontinental title on the line.
On Smackdown, Zeke explained that he wanted to make an immediate impact. He felt as if joining the Corre would do so.
Zeke went on to say that when he hoisted Big Show up for a slam, he questioned if he needed the Corre or not. The Corre attempted to attack Zeke once again but was placed in a six-man tag match instead.
Teaming with Big Show and Kane, Jackson submitted Gabriel with a torture rack.
Will Wade Barrett defeat Jackson, or will Barrett become another part of Jackson’s domination?
Rey Mysterio vs. R-Truth
6 of 8
Prior to this feud, R-Truth was involved in a heated rivalry with former friend, John Morrison. After Morrison goaded Truth into placing his number one contendership on the line in a match, Morrison defeated Truth for his spot.
Truth brutally attacked Morrison afterwards, turning heel in the process. Truth cost Morrison the WWE Title at Extreme Rules and was scheduled to face him the next night on RAW.
Truth attacked Morrison during his entrance, dropping Morrison on his neck twice.
It was later revealed that Morrison was suffering from a pinched nerve and was force to undergo minor surgery.
With Morrison sidelined for four to six weeks, R-Truth turned his attention to the WWE Championship. The RAW GM placed Rey Mysterio in a triple threat with Alberto Del Rio and The Miz instead of R-Truth.
Truth displayed his anger freely and blamed Mysterio for the GM’s decision.
After Alex Riley cost Mysterio the match, R-Truth attacked Rey with his signature move. Mysterio called Truth out on RAW but instead received some harsh words from the Superstar.
After defeating Alberto Del Rio by disqualification, Mysterio was attacked by Truth, who accepted Mysterio’s challenge for a match at Over the Limit.
Will Truth continue his heel turn? Will Rey finally put down the Truth? Will John Morrison play a role in this match?
WWE Championship: John Cena vs. The Miz
7 of 8
John Cena and The Miz will seemingly end their feud with this match. These superstars have been at each others throats since Miz eliminated Cena from the Royal Rumble.
John Cena would bounce back after winning the RAW Elimination Chamber to guarantee himself a title shot against Miz at WrestleMania. Cena’s feud with The Rock distracted the Champ on numerous occasions.
It was an Attitude Adjustment by Cena on the Great One that would cost him the WWE Championship. After The Rock restarted the WWE Championship match, the Great One leveled Cena with a Rock Bottom as The Miz pinned Cena to retain.
Cena assured the WWE Universe that he would defend the WWE Championship against The Rock at WrestleMania 28.
Cena would win a gauntlet match with R-Truth for a title shot at Extreme Rules.
Cena won the WWE Championship after Miz received an AA from the top rope. The Miz would cash in his rematch clause on RAW the next night.
Despite originally winning the title, the match went to Cena after the ref caught Miz with the WWE Championship. The Miz would win a triple threat match against Del Rio and Mysterio on RAW.
Cena then announced that it would be an I Quit match at Over the Limit.
The Miz’s chances of winning are almost zero to none. John Cena is 3-0 in I Quit matches with JBL, Randy Orton and Dave Batista as his victims. Unless Miz has a trick up his sleeve, John Cena will retain the WWE Championship this Sunday.
World Heavyweight Championship: Randy Orton vs. Christian
8 of 8
At Extreme Rules, Christian accomplished his ultimate goal. After a 17-year career, Christian won the World Championship in a ladder match.
Captain Charisma embraced his recently retired friend, Edge, after besting Alberto Del Rio for the title. Christian began the next Smackdown thanking Edge and the WWE Universe for their support.
This would bring out Mark Henry and Great Khali who wanted shots at Christian’s World Championship. Randy Orton interrupted and stated he wouldn’t let an opportunity of this nature pass him by.
Teddy Long ultimately decided to have fans pick the challenger for Christian’s Championship. To no one's surprise, the fans chose Orton.
In a closely contested bout, Randy Orton won the World Championship with an RKO.
The news of Orton’s title win sent shockwaves through the Internet. The majority of pro wrestling fans exploded with anger and sent the WWE and Randy Orton disparaging remarks on Twitter.
Orton responded with humor and believed most fans were jealous. The next week, Christian announced his rematch clause would be fulfilled at Over the Limit.
Orton and Christian teamed to defeat Sheamus and Mark Henry. This marked another significant event I WWE history as Smackdown garnered its lowest rating of 2011. The SmackDown that followed took the record as lowest of 2011.
Christian and Orton were both reluctant to help the other on Smackdown. In the end, both shook hands and stared at the World Championship as their title match approaches.
Will the Smackdown rating play a role in the decision? Which Superstar will turn heel? Can Christian restart the dream?
