MLB Fantasy Baseball Box Score Breakouts – 5/18/11
Here’s a look at the unheralded fantasy baseball players who played well yesterday.
Colorado at Philadelphia
Wilson Valdez went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI. Cole Hamels fired a gem to improve to 5-2 with a 2.92 ERA. Jorge de la Rosa did his thing too but took the loss. He’s still a solid 5-2 with a 3.34 ERA.
Pittsburgh at Cincinnati
Lyle Overbay went 2-for-4 with a run. Pedro Alvarez went 1-for-4 with a home run and three RBI. Charlie Morton threw a five-hit, five-strikeout shutout to improve to 5-1 with a 2.62 ERA.
Washington at New York Mets
Justin Turner went 2-for-4 with two RBI to raise his average to .333. Scott Hairston went 2-for-3 with a run. Michael Morse went 2-for-4. Jonathan Niese gave up six hits with seven strikeouts in seven scoreless innings for the win.
Cleveland at Chicago White Sox
Jake Peavy threw a three-hit shutout striking out eight. Surprisingly, he threw 111 pitches in his second start. Justin Masterson lost a brutal game after giving up just one run one five hits with eight strikeouts in eight innings. He’s now 5-2 with a 2.52 ERA.
Tampa Bay at Toronto
Johnny Damon went 2-for-4 and a stolen base. Matt Joyce went 1-for-3 with two runs, a home run (7) and two RBI (21) to raise his average to .365. Elliot Johnson went 2-for-3 with a run and three RBI. Corey Patterson went 2-for-5 with two runs. Aaron Hill went 1-for-4 with a run and two RBI.
Chicago Cubs at Florida
Kosuke Fukudome went 2-for-4 with a run to raise his average to .330. Darwin Barney went hitless, but drove in two runs. Koyie Hill went 3-for-3 with three runs. Greg Dobbs went 2-for-5 with a run and two RBI (16) to raise his average to .341.
Houston at St. Louis
Ryan Theriot went 2-for-4 with a run to raise his average to .304. John Jay went 2-for-4 with a run, two RBI and a stolen base to raise his average to .322. Yadier Molina went 3-for-4 with a run to raise his average to .323. Humberto Quintero went 2-for-3. Kyle Lohse gave up one run on six hits over eight innings to improve to 5-2 with a 2.17 ERA.
Detroit at Boston
Clay Buchholz and Phil Coke each tossed seven scoreless innings but go no-decision. Alex Avila went 2-for-4.
New York Yankees at Baltimore
Russell Martin went 2-for-4. Bartolo Colon gave up three hits with seven strikeouts in eight scoreless innings to lower his ERA to 3.16. Zach Britton gave up one unearned run over seven innings to lower his ERA to 2.14. Neither starter factored into the decision.
Texas at Kansas City
Endy Chavez went 2-for-3 with two runs and a stolen base to raise his average to .333. Andres Blanco went 2-for-4. Craig Genry went hitless but scored two runs and stole two bases. Wilson Betemit went 2-for-4 with two runs. Chris Getz went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Alcides Esobar went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Alexi Ogando gave up two runs on four hits over seven innings but got a no-decision. His ERA sits a 2.13.
Minnesota at Oakland
Denard Span went 2-for-5 with a run. Trevor Plouffe went 2-for-4 with three RBI. Justin Morneau went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Hideki Matsui went 2-for-4 with an RBI (16). Ryan Sweeney went 2-for-3 with a run. Kevin Kouzmanoff went 1-for-3 with two RBI (15). Carl Pavano gave up one earned run in seven innings but got a no-decision.
Atlanta at Arizona
Ryan Roberts went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI (18). Juan Miranda went 2-for-4 with a run. Gerardo Parra went 2-for-5. Alex Gonzalez went 3-for-4. Joe Saunders gave up one run in six innings but got a no-decision.
Los Angeles Angels at Seattle
Jack Cust went 2-for-4 with two RBI. Adam Kennedy went 2-for-4. Jason Vargas gave up four hits with nine strikeouts in seven innings to improve to 3-2 with a 3.39 ERA. Brandon League pitched a scoreless ninth to nail down save and allow Mariners fans and fantasy owners the chance to breathe a little easier.
Milwaukee at San Diego
Corey Hart went 3-for-5 with a run. Mark Kotsay went 3-for-4 with two RBI. Chris Denorfia went 2-for-5. Jason Bartlett went 2-for-4. Ryan Ludwick went 2-for-3 with a home run (8) and two RBI (28). Yovani Gallardo continued his turnaround.
San Francisco at Los Angeles Dodgers
Freddy Sanchez went 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI. Cody Ross went 2-for-3 with three runs, a home run, three RBI and a stolen base. Miguel Tejada went 2-for-4 with two RBI. Juan Uribe went 1-for-3 with a run and two RBI. Rod Barajas went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
