WWE Over the Limit: 10 Things That Can Go Wrong
Over the Limit is this Sunday. This PPV is only 3 weeks after Extreme Rules, which was a very good PPV in my opinion. The PPV, although has the chance to be good like Extreme Rules, also has the chance to create many problems.
This is the 10 things I think will have the opportunity to screw up this PPV.
Be sure to check for my Over the Limit predictions which will be posted sometime later this week.
Gimmick Match Overload
1 of 11
Extreme Rules consisted of a ladder match, a tables match, a falls count anywhere match, a last man standing match, and a steel cage match.
WWE has already placed an I Quit match already on the card for Over the Limit.
Please do us a favor and leave it at that.
To many gimmick matches in a row makes them less special, and makes me feel like I'm missing out on a good wrestling show.
Star Power?
2 of 11
Over the Limit is currently lacking in star power.
Names currently not on the card include: CM Punk, Alberto Del Rio, Sheamus, Kharma, Cody Rhodes, and Sin Cara, not to mention John Morrison because of injury.
Some big stars/good wrestlers like the ones I mentioned above need to be put on the card. Big names mean big buy numbers and a more interesting pay-per-view.
DePushes?
3 of 11
Cody Rhodes just finished a fantastic feud with Rey Mysterio leaving him without a tangible storyline.
No feud and no match at Over the Limit.
Alberto Del Rio is in the same position. He should be World Champion and yet he now has no match at Over the Limit.
CM Punk and the New Nexus haven't done anything lately but could start a feud with the tag champs, Kane and Big Show, and yet they currently have no bouts at Over the Limit.
Punk, Del Rio and Rhodes can all put on a good match. I beg you WWE to find something for these guys to do, or these up and comers will lose everything they worked so hard to get.
WWE Title Match Is to Predictable
4 of 11
Has the WWE title match become to predictable?
Let's think about it. John Cena has never lost an "I Quit" match.
From what I can remember, Miz only defended his title "cleanly" twice during his reign; once against a 61-year-old Jerry Lawler at Elimination Chamber and the other time against John Morrison during the first Raw of 2011. Even then, Alex Riley interfered in both matches, although his involvement didn't decide the match.
Cena has only held the title a couple of weeks after a near year-long break without the big belt. Cena is the WWE's money maker, so it's unlikely he'll lose the title so quickly.
The only saving grace for this match is that the Miz may be pushed into super-stardom.
World Heavyweight Title Match
5 of 11
I have problems with this match. None of them have to do with the quality of this match because I know it can be good. It might actually steal the show.
The potential outcome does not sit well with me.
If Orton wins, does Christian get another title shot. Probably not, considering Vince doesn't like him.
If Christian wins, we now have an issue of the World title changing hands too quickly. It would switch holders three times in three weeks if Christian wins.
The only other option is a draw, which most of the time sucks. In this case, Orton would retain the title and Christian would get another match.
This, surprisingly, might be my favorite option.
If this happens, it wouldn't be more realistic for Christian to win the title in a re-match, with a less predictable outcome.
Timing
6 of 11
Over the Limit is just three weeks after Extreme Rules.
This leaves very little time to develop new feuds. Throw in the WWE draft that occurred right before Extreme Rules and you have a problem.
The lack of starpower and shake-up from the draft has left this pay-per-view at risk. The company didn't foresee the effect of the rushed draft on later PPV's.
Lawler/Cole Fued
7 of 11
This feud was interesting for a while. I will admit that. Now it is becoming the same old story.
Last week on Raw, Cole talked about Lawler's recently deceased mother, which made me uncomfortable. WWE has pushed this feud to its limits and there is no reason for it to go any further. Let's end this feud once and for all.
What to Do with Miz
8 of 11
Over the Limit could spell trouble for Miz.
Miz has a bright future, but I don't see him winning the title on Sunday which makes his short-term storyline murky.
Pushing both Miz and Del Rio presents quite a task, but both of them deserve main event status.
Does this set up a face turn for Miz or does this push him back down the totem pole?
Miz, as a character, is great as is so it will be interesting to see how WWE gets out of the problem.
Emphasis on Titles
9 of 11
The last couple of PPV's haven't had a big emphasis on titles. At Extreme Rules, we had two unannounced title matches, one of which the title changed hands.
Title feuds deserve more meaning than a random feud.
Besides the World Heavyweight and the WWE title, championships are not being defended on a regular basis. This makes titles forgettable and leaves viewers surprised when a lesser title match is announced.
Over the Limit needs to put the emphasis back on titles and give us some quality title matches.
Not Many Surprises
10 of 11
The last "surprise" we had was Kharma. For me it was way to late
She signed with WWE back in January, five months prior to her debut.
WWE has tried shocking us. They had The Rock interfere at Wrestlemania, but which was predictable.
The only real shock I have had this year was Edge retiring but that was for completely different reasons. That was unfortunate to hear because I expected him to continue wrestling for another couple of years.
At the end of Over the Limit, I want something to jump out at me and make me feel like this PPV was worth ordering.
Even if just for that one shocking moment.
The End
11 of 11
I leave you with a picture that I feel will repeat itself at the end of Over the Limit.
These problems that can happen are just the beginning. WWE can address all the problems I have and throw me a curve, but if the match quality is horrible, then it is still a bad PPV.
However, if they address the problems and give us some good matches, then this could be a great PPV. Only time will tell and the clock starts tonight during Raw.
Leave a comment and let me know what you think. Thanks for reading.
