Smack Talk for 5/13/11 (Christian & Randy Orton vs. Sheamus & Mark Henry)

Eric KanesMay 15, 2011

What's up, ladies and gentlemen? My name is Eric Kanes and I am bringing you this week's edition of "Smack Talk."

And now, from Nashville, Tennessee, let's talk some smack!

-This week's show started with the same video package that we got on RAW on Christian's world title win. Christian then came out and said that while the peeps may be upset with Teddy Long's decision, he is fine with it as he would've done the same thing as Randy Orton if he was in his position. He also said that last week we learned that Christian can easily beat Orton when he's at 100%.

At this point, Sheamus interrupted Christian for absolutely no reason and asked for a match. Mark Henry came out next and he had a brilliant solution to the quandary - Mark Henry vs. Sheamus. Sheamus contrasted Mark Henry's brilliance by suggesting a different match - Mark Henry & Sheamus vs. Christian. Henry and Sheamus then ganged up on Christian until Randy Orton ran out and made the save.

Just to note, this is what I wrote in last week's Smack Talk:

"If Sheamus is consistently booked like this and doesn't get RKO'd or put in a dance off by next week, then he can be a solid world champion in the near future."

I think I got my hopes up too soon.

-Backstage, Teddy Long announced that the main event would be Randy Orton & Christian vs. Mark Henry & Sheamus. Christian thanked Orton for helping him out but Orton said that he only did it because he wants Christian at 100% for their match next week.

-We got Sin Cara vs. Tyson Kidd last week and Sin Cara vs. Daniel Bryan this week in what could've been two dream matches. This one got 12 minutes too so it really had potential. Once again, though, the lighting ruined it. The match was enjoyable for the most part but the lighting made it hard for me to really get into it. They need to lose the awkward lighting.

-Chavo Guerrero helped Sin Cara get the win here. Post-match, Sin Cara pushed Chavo because he didn't want a cheap win. This feud could be good. Maybe they'll completely turn the lights off for it.

-As we came back from commercials, Layla was in the ring and said that she hurt her knee during her match with Michelle McCool but it was so worth it. Michael Cole interrupted and said that nobody cares about any of the divas. Go Michael Cole! Layla told him to shut up and Cole called her a crybaby. Kharma's music then hit and she walked down to the ring. Cole was laughing and tripped Layla as she was walking away. Kharma hit the Implant Buster on Layla as Cole was yelling at her. Kharma then turned and glared at Cole as he dashed back into his Cole Mine. Ha, that was pretty funny. Kharma kept staring at him as Cole sat there shivering.

This segment was fine but I don't get why Cole is being used in segments like this. If you're going to use him as an on-air character, why not use him as Jack Swagger's manager during his matches? There are so many better ways to use Cole than this.

-I'm sure Wade Barrett vs. Kane was a 5-star classic just like their previous matches in this epic rivalry but I fast forwarded through it. Sorry. These guys borre me.

Post-match, the remaining scraps of The Corre beat down Kane as Ezekiel Jackson's music hit and he ran out to make the save. The Corre beat him down as well and it ended with Justin Gabriel hitting the 450 splash. At Over the Limit, it's Wade Barrett vs. Ezekiel Jackson for the Intercontinental title. If anyone's looking for me, I'll be in the bathroom.

-Since The Corre now looks even more pathetic than it did before with the lack of an enforcer, they might as well completely break the group up. Have Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel still working as a tag team and going on a losing streak. After several weeks of not knowing what to do, they turn back to CM Punk and The New Nexus. I've suggested this scenario multiple times. The Corre is dead while The New Nexus still has some potential. It has to be done. Check out my column on how I'd book SummerSlam where I listed the full scenario for this.

-The Great Khali's Kiss Cam was next. After kissing a random woman, Jinder Mahal came out and slapped Khali twice. He then yelled at him but Khali didn't react. I like where this is going. However, I'm giving it two months before Mahal turns on Khali. Tag teams in modern-day WWE don't last long.

-It's amazing how much Ted DiBiase's stock has dropped over the past year. He's gone from being Cody Rhodes' partner to Cody Rhodes' personal jobber. It's a shame, too. I think the "Fortune Son" character had a lot more potential than the character Rhodes has now. For some reason, WWE never allowed it to take off.

-The main event wasn't bad, I'll give it that, but it wasn't very good either. It was a 15-minute match that was way too slow for my liking. Predictably, Orton and Christian picked up the win. I'll reiterate what I said earlier:

"If Sheamus is consistently booked like this and doesn't get RKO'd or put in a dance off by next week, then he can be a solid world champion in the near future."

Damn you, WWE!

Final Thoughts

Overall, this week's SmackDown gets a 5/10 from me. I realize that this review was just one long rant but the show really wasn't very good. Maybe my expectations were high after last week's fantastic show but this week's just sucked.

Sin Cara vs. Daniel Bryan was a pretty good match but it was ruined by the lighting. Wade Barrett vs. Kane was exactly the kind of match you'd expect them to put on. Finally, no storyline progression was made. Randy Orton and Christian are main eventing a PPV for the world title next week and yet they're just buddies this week? Makes no sense. Hopefully, next week's SmackDown is better than this was.

There will be no RAW Review this week. Tuesday isn't a very good day for me to write at the moment. Once I take care of some business, the RAW Review will return. However, I will still be right back here sometime next week with my official Over the Limit preview but until then, I'm out!
