Andre Ward/Arthur Abraham: Live Blog Updates from Home Depot Center, Carson CA
The Showtime Super Six Classic Super Middleweight Tournament continues as the tournament's current favorite and leader on points, undefeated American WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward, takes on the power punching Arthur Abraham in the semifinals.
Also on the card is Mexican-American Riverside, CA heavyweight contender Chris Arreola, who has been shocking much of the boxing media and fans with a new slimmer fit physique, taking on Nagy Aguilera from the Dominican Republic.
Despite Ward's dominance in this tournament, many are criticizing the fact that he has been fighting all of his fights in his backyard of the Bay Area with local judges and officials as well.
The fact that this fight is taking place in Southern California at the Home Depot Center in Carson, presents many questions.
One question is, will Ward/Abraham be able to sell out, or sell well at least, the Home Depot Center seeing that he is primarily more famous and even known in Northern California?
The answer to this question may never be answered for the large local demographic Armenian population outside of L.A. may help sell the tickets as well as Arreola bringing in the legions of Mexicans from L.A. and Riverside county as well.
Abraham almost withdrew from this fight because he was strongly opposed to it taking place in California again, to the favoritism and home court advantage to Ward. After agreeing to fight in Southern California, Abraham then was opposed to having any California-based judge or referee in the match.
This matchup of Ward/Abraham should be a good one for both fighters. Most recently, Ward has been fighting toe to toe and pressuring, and even smothering, his opponents with aggression. Abraham is a slugger who does not really know how to box and fight in a technical defensive manner.
Chris Arreola is probably the most exciting heavyweight in this current "great depression" state of the heavyweight division and will probably look the best he has ever been with his more focused mentality and disciplined body.
