Chicago White Sox Video: Check out Paul Konerko's Tribute to Mark Buehrle

Jon FromiMay 11, 2011

Chicago White Sox fans who stayed up late to watch the series finale with the Los Angeles Angels were treated to some late-inning excitement.

In case you didn't have insomnia on Wednesday night, here's what you missed in the course of Chicago's 6-4, 10-inning win:

Jake Peavy made his return to the big leagues for the first time in over 10 months. However, Peavy didn't factor in the decision—giving up four runs in six innings of work. He struck out four and gave up seven hits.

Up until the top of the ninth, that was pretty much the story of the game. It appeared that the White Sox would lose their second straight game after a three-game winning streak. After all, Chicago had a record of 1-18 this season, when trailing after eight innings. Last night, they trailed 4-2 heading into their last bat.

I wouldn't blame you for getting some shuteye, but as it turns out, you missed a heck of a finish.

Chicago tallied a pair of runs off Angels closer Jordan Walden, capped by Omar Vizquel's sacrifice fly.

The 10th inning proved yet again that you never know what you're going to see at a baseball game.

The White Sox scored the eventual game-winner on a wild pitch by Kevin Jepsen, which allowed Alexei Ramirez to score.

That's not completely out of the ordinary, until you add in the fact that he uncorked a pitch to the backstop while the Angels were intentionally walking Paul Konerko.

Konerko added to the uniqueness of the evening as he got credit for a stolen base, later that inning.

With a 6-4 lead in the bottom half of the inning, Konerko climbed the stepladder to rob Maicer Izturis of a hit.

He ended the game with a web gem, scooping up Torii Hunter's bunt attempt and flipping the ball behind his back to Matt Thornton, who beat Hunter to the bag.

Paul Konerko flashing the leather, Buehrle-style? Thornton picking up a save with a 1-2-3 10th? Four-hit nights for A.J. Pierzynski and Adam Dunn, who scored in both the ninth and 10th innings?

Take a look at Konerko's slick moves over your morning coffee. It sure beats waking up to the dreary news of another White Sox loss.
