College Football Pick'em: Lisa Vs. Justin

Lisa HorneOct 16, 2008

Timing is everything, isn't it? Last week Lise skidded past Joshua on the LSU-Tennessee game. The spread was 12.5 points, and LSU won by 12. Whew! That's two weeks in a row Lise has won, but she barely beat Joshua as he made some great picks.

New totals are Lise with 6/10 for an overall record of 25/60, and the boys with 5/10 and an overall record of 29/60.

Next up is that LSU homer, Justin Goar. What a perfect week for Justin and I to go at it! LOL! Y'all know Justin. He's one of our top writers.

Here's my take on Justin:

He's the LSU Community Leader (of course), is king of the Baton Rouge tailgating parties (of course), his favorite colors are purple and gold (of course), and he has a little one due in over a month (of course, right after regular season football is over—nice timing Justin!).

Here's his take on himself:

I'm the LSU Community Leader and a College Football freak. Last year in my bowl picks column I went head to head with my wife, and she beat me by one game. My wife picked games based on places she'd like to visit, mascots, color schemes, and which schools matched up better with their bowl sponsors. I am a man clinging to his last shred of pride.

This week I pick on behalf of battered men everywhere. As Buckshot Roberts would say, "Let's dance..."

Clearly, the dude is a funny man. FYI, Justin, the wife is always right.

The Games...

Iowa -3.5 vs. Wisconsin

Justin: Wisconsin
The Hawkeyes are at home and playing good ball, but Wisconsin needs this one badly. One way or the other I think it's a three-point game. So gimme da Badgers! On Wisconsin!
Lisa: Iowa
The Badgers are in a tailspin through a giant vortex from which there is no escape—they have lost their will, and I see Iowa taking advantage of that.
Georgia -14.5 vs. Vandy
Justin: Georgia
Is this the week Georgia's offense goes off and shows what they can really do, or is this the week Vandy returns to their winning ways? Either way, the UGA defense will be the difference and will be assisted by Vandy having so much trouble passing.
Lisa: Vandy
Are you kidding me? Vandy has had the Dawgs' number two years straight, and both games were decided by a combined difference of five points. Upset alert.
Alabama -13.5 vs. Ole Miss
Justin: Ole Miss
This game is rough for me. These teams play it close recently. But this Tide team ain't your four-year-old nephew's Alabama team. Still, let's not underestimate Houston Nutt.
Lisa: Alabama
While Saban is 1-1 off of byes, he got leapfrogged by Texas in the polls, and now it's time to put the pedal to the metal and watch Bama ROLL over Ole Miss.
Pitt -3 @ Navy
Justin: Pitt
I think Navy's QB (whose name I'm too lazy to look up to get correct) is the way you say "Merry Christmas" in Hawaiian. But I gotta give the Wannstache some love.
Lisa: Navy
If Navy's running game keeps at its current pace, the Panthers will be out of breath in the fourth quarter.
Ohio State -3.5 vs. Michigan State
Justin: Michigan State
I'm closing my eyes on this one and going with my gut instead of my head. We'll see how that works out for me.
Lisa: Michigan State
I'm going by the theory that since the Bucks beat a very average Wisconsin team by three, and a mediocre Purdue by 13, that basically means they will probably lose outright to Sparty.
Colorado -3 vs. Kansas State
Justin: Colorado
I can't figure out KSU, I just can't. I'm taking the Buffs in Boulder.
Lisa: Kansas State
I'm wondering which personalities show up for this bipolar game of the week—the three-point spread tells me this is a toss-up, and the Buffs give three for home field advantage. I'm going with the Kitties to cover in a close game.
Boston College -2.5 vs. Va Tech
Justin: Va Tech
Great, two more teams I can't figure out. This is getting tougher. The Hokies are slowly reminding people they've only lost one game by a special teams TD early in the season.
Lisa: Boston College
I actually think these two teams are dead even. I flipped a coin, and da Eagles won.
Texas -6.5 vs. Mizzou
Justin: Mizzou
For me, this is the hardest game of the week because the line was set well. But I saw plenty of points in Dallas last week. I like Texas to win a classic but not cover.
Lisa: Mizzou
This seems difficult, but in psychological terms, it is not. Texas will be hungover from a huge win (just like Bama and USC were), and Mizzou is fighting mad for some respect and a shot at the conference title. Mizzou covers and may upset the Horns.
LSU -3.5 @ South Carolina
Justin: South Carolina
OK, this week I'm doing another "Creature vs. Creature" prediction article with Tim Pollock, who has the pulse of the dirty dirty. In that prediction, I pick LSU by three. But I'll gladly take a loss in this pick.
Lisa: LSU
The Tigers come off an embarrassing loss and will rip those Gamecocks apart. The Tigers by 20.
USC -42 @ Washington State
Justin: USC
USC blanked the Sun Devils last week. With weekly chaos towards the top of the rankings, the Trojans know they can get back in this thing. Is playing in Pullman enough to keep this one under 42? Nope.
Lisa: USC
I'm not sure there will be any Cougars fans in the stands by halftime. Wazzu lost both of their quarterbacks and have a brand new coach who has been baptized by fire. USC will score 42 points by halftime.
OK guys, let Justin know how you feel about his picks! This is a make or break week for both of us...we disagree on SEVEN GAMES.
Let's rock!
