US Soccer Team Loses to Trinidad & Tobago

The US Soccer Team faced Trinidad and Tobago at the Hasely Crawford Stadium located at the host nation’s capital at Port of Spain. The important game between the two nations was played under a heavy humidity in front of 18,000 spectators.  

The first 61 minutes of the match was a struggle for possession of the ball and game between the USA and Trinidad & Tobago, until the first goal by Latapy. 

Latapy gave Trinidad & Tobago the goal, and surprised a US Soccer Team that was suffering from over-confidence. After the first goal, Trinidad and Tobago started to rest a little more until an equalizer by Davis at 75 minutes woke them.

Afterwards, Trinidad & Tobago started to play serious soccer and the United States were forced on the defensive. The fate of the US Soccer Team took a turn for the worst when Altidore received a yellow card at 78 minutes. The fate of the US Soccer Team was sealed when Yorke broke the tie after scoring from a penalty kick after 79 minutes.

It was all over as Trinidad & Tobago won the tie, improving their chances of qualifying for the FIFA World Cup.

Regardless of who won, the US Soccer Team has already classified for the CONCACAF FIFA World Cup Eliminations after defeating Cuba at RFK Stadium in Washington, DC. The US Soccer Team has played great games in the CONCACAF and it remains to be seen what will happen in their game against Guatemala. I do have some advice for the US Soccer Team—play like you mean it.

I would also suggest to the US Soccer Team not to get overconfident after winning a few games, maintain the focus of being organized and consistent in its playing tactics. The factors that always defeat a team are overconfidence, lack of confidence, and being disorganized.

Trinidad & Tobago has shown to the world that it is a team that cannot be underestimated, but it still has a long way to go before classifying for the CONCACAF FIFA World Cup Eliminations.

It is possible that Trinidad & Tobago could still classify but it has to keep playing with consistency and discipline.
