Impressed/Depressed/Unmoved- Week 7 Of The CFB Season

Alex FergusonOct 15, 2008

Coming back from a bit of a high after going to the Texas/Oklahoma (not the other way round, as I'm often reminded) game on Saturday, Alex Ferguson gives you his IDU for Week 7 of the season.

IMPRESSED

Texas/Oklahoma

Texas' 45-35 upset of Oklahoma DIDN'T mean that Texas is a much better team than Oklahoma. Oklahoma may well be the best one-loss team in the country, and better than most no-loss teams in the country.

Colt McCoy and Sam Bradford are both excellent quarterbacks, and someone had to lose. Thankfully for Texas and its 46,000 fans in burnt orange, it was the Sooners.

Oklahoma State

I didn't expect the Cowboys to come into Missouri and come out with a victory, did you? They played Missouri at their own game, and the rest led to celebration in Stillwater —particularly as OU lost too!

Florida

51-21 over LSU? One word: wow. The defense was unbelievably quick, and Tim Tebow—while not looking spectacular—looked pretty damned good. These Gators, my people, are your new SEC favourites.

Penn State

Normally I'd find excuses to slam the Nittany Lions. A 48-7 victory IN Wisconsin was perfection itself. To be frank, I've never see the Lions actual 'go for the jugular' on the road. On Saturday night in front of a packed Camp Randall, they went for the jugular, and the rest is 7-0. Roll on Michigan.

Toledo

It may have been only Michigan (I say "only" because of the state of Rich Rodriguez' program at the moment), but a win in the Big House is one more than Penn State's been able to manage in the last few years. Toledo made history, too - it is the first MAC team ever to win at The Big House. Giggles.

Mississippi State

Two weeks after their hated rival knocks off a ranked team, MSU do the same to Vanderbilt. Congratulations, Mr. Croom, it might have kept you in a job this year.

Nebraska

I honestly thought the Huskers were going to get ripped to shreds in Lubbock this weekend. But Nebraska battled back, and only lost in overtime. Maybe Bo Pellini's team has a future, after all.

Michigan State

The Jevon Ringer bandwagon keeps on rolling, doesn't it? The man gets so many touches, he should really take on quarterback for the 6-1 Spartans, too....Seriously though, the Spartans haven't lost since the opening days of the season and will present a monster test for Ohio State this weekend.

UNMOVED

Ohio State

OSU still seem to be going through the motions—particularly against a Purdue side who isn't anything special this year. Knowing my luck, the Buckeyes will stop 'going through the motions' against Penn State, and win by 50.

Georgia

By now it's evident that Georgia AREN'T the best team in the SEC—I'd give that honour to either Alabama or Florida, but beating Tennessee isn't bad. It just wasn't impressive, that's all.

USC

Winning 28-0 should get you on the IDU 'Impressed' list. But Mark Sanchez wasn't anything special (three turnovers), even if the defense was. Everything balances each other out, doesn't it?

DEPRESSED

Wisconsin

However satisfying it was to see Penn State hammering them on Saturday night, it's still sad to see how much the Badgers have worsened over the course of three games. Still at least "Jump Around" rocks....

Michigan

One word: Ow.

Tennessee

Now that Tommy Bowden's out of a job at Clemson, will Phil Fulmer be next, considering his team's winning points for under-performing at the moment?

Clemson

It's gotten so bad that they had to can their coach, Tommy Bowden. People say that Lane Kiffin might be the next bit of 'new direction'. And CJ Spiller's injury is going to hurt the short-term future, too.

Arizona State

Way to make lots of pretty girls look sad, Sun Devils, way to go.
