2011 Kentucky Derby Odds: Re-Examining The Field With Uncle Mo Out
A little more than 24 hours before the big race, Uncle Mo is scratched due to some sort of gastrointestinal tract infection that has yet to be determined.
This doesn't necessarily leave the field wide open, as most of the prospects have not had a sterling record, which would make them stand out as a true favorite. Trainer Todd Pletcher has decided not to run Uncle Mo; even though his body seems fit, he has a decreased appetite and weight loss.
Next in Line: Dialed in
1 of 6
Young at heart as well as age, Dialed In has the slight advantage of youthful exuberance. Vegas lines already have him listed as the favorite.
Nehro
2 of 6
Odds have Nehro as the second favorite. He was just a bit off the win in the Arkansas and Louisiana Derbies at second place in both, so the trainer needs to get him to make that final push to win this year's Kentucky Derby.
Midnight Interlude
3 of 6
Odds have this horse as the third favorite, though the only reason I see is the last two races have given this horse first-place wins, but he’s only run four times. Is that reason enough?
Archarcharch
4 of 6
Our fourth place contender: Archarcharch. This horse should be the second favorite, but odds are placed where the money goes, therefore things should go a little haywire now that Uncle Mo is out of the running.
The Longest Shot: Watch Me Go
5 of 6
Not likely to return your money like some long-shots, he should be named Watch Me Go Home Empty Handed.
The Rest of the Field
6 of 6
Middle of the road horses that may just come in the middle of the field. At this point, it'll be line movements and a crazy scattering of ideas as everyone tries to predict a winner of a race that was already sketchy at best.
