David Wright: 5 Possible Trade Destinations for New York Mets 3B
The trade winds are beginning to swirl harder in New York City, as the Mets have continued to struggle this year.
This trade talk has been focused mostly on Jose Reyes, but there have also been rumors that David Wright could be among the players who are traded.
Mets columnist Adam Rubin said, "The chatter on the airwaves about considering dealing Wright has intensified, since he would yield more than any other player on the roster."
The decision will come down to how GM Sandy Alderson views the future of the Mets and if David Wright is a part of that future.
Wright would obviously bring back a large return in a deal, but the Mets fan base would likely be angered if he is moved.
Detroit Tigers
1 of 5
The Tigers were expected to contend for the AL Central title this season. However, they have had some troubles so far.
Third base is currently being manned by Brandon Inge. He has shown some power in the past, but offensively that is all he is able to provide as he is a career .236 hitter.
David Wright would be a big upgrade for the Tigers and would serve as great protection for Miguel Cabrera.
The Tigers also have prospects who the Mets would be interested in. Any deal would need to be build around either Jacob Turner or Andy Oliver.
Other prospects who could be included in the deal are Francisco Martinez or Chance Ruffin.
St. Louis Cardinals

David Freese was doing a great job at third base for the Cardinals before he went on the disabled list with a broken hand.
He is not expected to be back for three to four months. In addition, when he returns his production should drop off. Freese was helped significantly by an absurdly high .460 BABIP.
By acquiring David Wright, the Cardinals might give Albert Pujols another reason to stay in St. Louis. Wright would serve as another cornerstone for the Cardinals and could be a piece of insurance in case Pujols leaves.
The Mets would likely start negotiations by asking for Shelby Miller. In addition, Carlos Martinez or Seth Blair could head to New York.
Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim

The Angels have had Alberto Callaspo penciled in at third base for them on most nights this year. Callaspo is an average player.
Without Kendrys Morales in their lineup, the Angels could use another offensive superstar. The solution to their problem could easily be David Wright.
It is obvious where the trade talk here would begin. Mike Trout would need to be involved in a deal.
The Mets would also likely get one of the Angels' lesser prospects such as Luis Jimenez or Donn Roach.
Cincinnati Reds
4 of 5
The Reds' current third baseman is Miguel Cairo, since Scott Rolen is on the DL with a shoulder injury.
They are both serviceable third basemen, but the Reds could certainly use someone better if they are looking to make a deeper run into the playoffs this year.
Wright would benefit by playing in Great American Ballpark which is considered to be a bandbox. Playing for the Reds, Wright could have his first 30-plus home run season since 2008.
There are two players whose names jump out as players who the Mets would be interested in. Billy Hamilton would be a great fit in the Mets system.
Juan Francisco could be a replacement for David Wright. He is just 24 years old and has shown some great power in the minors.
Oakland Athletics
5 of 5
Kevin Kouzmanoff and Andy LaRoche are not the solution to the Athletics' problem at third base.
However, David Wright could easily solve their problem.
Wright would instantly become the best player in the A's lineup and would provide a power threat for the middle of their order.
In regard to the return the Mets would get for Wright, they would be very interested in Gio Gonzalez.
In addition to Gonzalez, Steve Parker, Max Stassi, or Michael Taylor would also likely be traded to the Mets.
