NFL Trade Rumors: 10 Outlandish Rumors That Won't Come to Pass
The 2011 NFL draft has come and gone, and now we have to mop around and wait until NFL free agency can finally start—that's until the lockout is lifted, of course.
Even prior to free agency, there have been a plethora of trade rumors swirling around the league, and many of them are completely asinine, probably because the majority of those rumors have no creditability behind them whatsoever.
Here I have presented 10 trade rumors that have been heard in the latest buzz around the league. Some of these rumors are just so far-fetched, and some of them are relatively possible, but I want to squash them immediately.
Tim Tebow Being Traded
1 of 10
This is by far one of the most asinine rumors that I have heard to date. The Denver Broncos will not be trading quarterback Tim Tebow.
In a May 2 report courtesy of Rotoworld.com, it expresses how Broncos' Vice President John Elway has no interest in trading the former 2010 first-round draft choice.
"Elway called Kyle Orton the starer right now, but it's clear that he prefers the youthful upside Tebow brings. I think where we are as an organization, we are going with Tim," Elway said. "Tebow is in Denver working out with receivers Brandon Lloyd and Jabar Gaffney right now. The Florida product certainly won't be outworked during the lockout."
Tebow is the obvious choice for the team's future quarterback, as he'll enter a quarterback competition in training camp this upcoming August against Kyle Orton.
Kevin Kolb to the Minnesota Vikings
2 of 10
In my opinion, the Minnesota Vikings have squashed all rumors of possibly acquiring Kevin Kolb via trade as they selected Christian Ponder with their first-round draft pick.
Ponder is the future quarterback of the team, and in order to trade for Kolb, the Vikings will have to trade some valuable pieces for him.
The Vikings are much better off signing a veteran quarterback in free agency at a low minimal contract.
Reggie Bush Being Cut/Traded
3 of 10
As soon as the New Orleans Saints drafted running back Mark Ingram, this ugly rumor arose to the surface.
Let me sum it up for you: Not a chance in hell.
Reggie Bush is such a valuable part to New Orleans' offense—in fact, the Saints have packages designed solely for Bush due to his amazing athleticism and playmaking ability.
Bush, Ingram and possibly Pierre Thomas will make quite the three-headed monster backfield down in the Bayou.
Donovan McNabb to the Arizona Cardinals
4 of 10
Sure, Donovan McNabb has been training in Arizona during the offseason with Larry Fitzgerald, but that does not mean that the Cardinals will have any interest in acquiring the former Pro Bowl quarterback.
Quite frankly, I don't see why any team would have any large interest in McNabb as he's starting to look "over the hill," and has a hard time keeping himself physically composed.
The Cardinals are much better off signing Marc Bugler or even someone like Trent Edwards, not McNabb.
Jimmy Clausen Being Traded
5 of 10
Similar to the Reggie Bush situation, there's no chance that the Carolina Panthers will trade Jimmy Clausen before week one of the 2011 NFL season.
The Panther selected quarterback Cam Newton with the first overall pick in the 2011 NFL draft, and he'll certainly stir up a quarterback controversy in Carolina's training camp prior to the start of the season.
It's Carolina's best bet to have Clausen stick around. He'll not only put a "fire under Newton's behind," but he'll also be somewhat of a "safety-net" as he's already experienced 13 NFL games.
Carson Palmer to the Tennessee Titans
6 of 10
This may not be considered a trade rumor that's in the "buzz," but believe it or not, I see this as a trade possibly in several places.
The Titans selected their future quarterback in Jake Locker and will have no interest in giving up whatever it takes to land Carson Palmer.
Palmer has made it clear that he wants out of Cincinnati, but Tennessee is a definite non-destination.
Alex Smith to the Seattle Seahawks
7 of 10
Alex Smith has been a very disappointing first-overall selection, so why not ship him to a former college head coach?
I'll tell you why.
First, the Seattle Seahawks are a divisional rival. Secondly, first-year head coach Jim Harbaugh could potentially resurrect Smith's career in his version of the west coast offense.
It's definitely in San Francisco's best interest to keep Smith, as he'll be a member in a battle for the starting quarterback job along with rookie Colin Kaepernick.
Randy Moss Returning to the New England Patriots
8 of 10
I realize that this is not a trade, but I just wanted to throw it in there anyway.
I have said time and time again that the New England Patriots will never, ever bring back Randy Moss—ever.
Moss showed his true colors as an immature child during his final year as a Patriot, and I am sure that Bill Belichick is smart enough to steer clear of Moss' issues.
Kyle Orton Being Traded
9 of 10
Tim Tebow may be the clear-cut favorite to be the team's franchise quarterback, but Kyle Orton still has a lot to offer.
Despite what VP John Elway stated about Tebow being the team's starting quarterback, newly hired head coach John Fox may have other cleans.
In a May 1 report via Rotoworld.com, Fox entertained the possibility of Orton being the team's starting quarterback in 2011:
"If John Elway's most recent comments about Tim Tebow are accurate, Fox's statement is easy to see through. The Broncos can't possibly say otherwise about Orton, because doing so would let the rest of the NFL know he's an $8.8 million clipboard holder. And no one's going to buy Denver paying that much for a backup. Either Orton is going to be the Week 1 starter, or he will be off the roster. Our money, for now, is on Tebow starting Opening Day."
San Fransisco Trading for Any QB
10 of 10
The San Francisco 49ers are definitely set at the quarterback position as they drafted Colin Kaepernick with the 36th overall pick in the 2011 draft and former first overall draft pick in Alex Smith.
Kaepernick and Smith will square off in a rather interesting and definitely entertaining quarterback battle in the 2011 49ers' training camp with first-year head coach Jim Harbaugh as the judge.
The 49ers do not need to bring in any quarterback; whether if it's Kevin Kolb or Donovan McNabb, Smith and Kaepernick are definitely qualified to take the role as the team's starting signal-caller.
