2011 NFL Fantasy Football: Fantasy Impact of Saints Trading Up for Mark Ingram

The New Orleans Saints have finally got themselves a franchise running back.ย

After flirting with the idea of making a move for Beanie Wells two seasons ago, the Saints have drafted former Heisman winner Mark Ingram

Donโ€™t let his 4.6 40-time mislead you, this is one heck of a running back.

Ingram figures to become the Saints feature back by year's end assuming Pierre Thomasโ€™ bruiser role and sharing the backfield with both Thomas and last years surprising rookie Chris Ivory.

The drafting of Ingram probably signals the end of Reggie Bushโ€™s tenure with the Saints.

Ingram will prove to be far more valuable in dynasty league drafts but should become a rock-solid second half performer that can help carry his fantasy teams to the playoffs.

As of right now Ingram projects as a solid flex option running back in yearly leagues but that could change if the Saints find a suitor for Pierre Thomas.

Health permitting Ingram should get around 200 carries at a 4.4-4.8 YPC clip.

We will provide a more in depth analysis after the free agency period has begun.
