2011 NFL Draft Grades: 5 Teams Who Failed To Improve During the Draft
2011 NFL draft Grades For the Top Five Teams Who Failed to Improve During The NFL Draft
The NFL draft is not kind to every team, and there a few teams that really did not get the memo on player value.
The first round is typically the headliner, but the remaining rounds really make or break drafts.
Here are five teams that failed to improve in this draft.
St. Louis Rams
The Rams had a major need at wide receiver in this draft, also could have used a player at defensive tackle, and outside of the first round, I do not think they found great value.
Robert Quinn is a top-10 talent, but they didn't land a No. 1 receiver, actually could have flip-flopped with a better WR in second round and different TE in third round and got better value.
Carolina Panthers
Sure, Cam Newton is nice, but he is not going to take over this team immediately, and he has a ton of growing to do.
The remaining players in their draft only have two players assured a roster spot; the rest could easily be cut by the time the summer ends.
Jacksonville Jaguars
By moving up for Blaine Gabbert, the Jaguars hitched their wagon to a horse that could easily fall off the ledge.
Coach Jack Del Rio better hope Gabbert gets "it" pretty quickly, or things could be ugly. Cecil Shorts could be good, or could fail, and Will Rackley is the only other player that will start for this team.
New England Patriots
Plain and simple, this took a lot of chances with a ton of draft picks. Nate Solder is far from a sure thing on the offensive line. Ryan Mallett could implode quickly. They took two running backs that nobody expected to come off the board that early, and there is a good chance Ras-I Dowling gets injured tomorrow.
As sad as it is, there is no telling what will happen with Marcus Cannon (although I think the pick is great).
This team didn't get better for next year though.
Kansas City Chiefs
Uncharacteristic picks define the Chiefs' choices. Jon Baldwin in the first round is a head scratcher and only second-round guard/center Rodney Hudson can help this team next year. Allen Bailey and Justin Houston need time to realize that they are football players, and there is a good chance Houston gets in trouble before that happens.
For a team that needed impact players to stay atop the AFC West, only Hudson fills that need.
