Mr. Irrelevant: Power Ranking the Last 10 Mr. Irrelevants

Matt SteinApr 30, 2011

Do you remember when you were younger and the kids in your neighborhood got together to play a game of football?

There were two captains, and whoever picked the right number got the first draft pick.  After that, each captain would go back and forth picking the kids they wanted on their team.  There was also that was kid that was always picked last.

That kid was Mr. Irrelevant.

Mr. Irrelevant heard 253 names called before his own.  Mr. Irrelevant had to wait three days to be drafted.  However, just like that kid who was always picked last, Mr. Irrelevant has the chance to play the game he loves.

Here is a ranking of the last 10 Mr. Irrelevants drafted.  Congratulations on being drafted in the NFL Draft.

10. Cheta Ozougwu, DE

This year's Mr. Irrelevant is Cheta Ozougwu.  Congratulations.

Cheta Ozougwu was picked with the 251st pick of the 2011 NFL Draft by the Houston Texans.

He will forever go down in history.

Hopefully he can have a career similar to the top guys on this list.  History, however, shows that it is very likely he won't play in an NFL game.

Hey, at least he was drafted by a team in the NFL. Just hold onto that, Mr. Irrelevant, and everything will be just fine.

9. Andy Stokes, TE

Andy Stokes was drafted with the 255th pick in the 2005 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots.

Stokes was a tight end from William Penn University.  He was cut by the Patriots during training camp.  The Arizona Cardinals and Seattle Seahawks both gave Stokes a try, but he made neither roster.

His greatest accomplishment was being Mr. Irrelevant.

8. Ahmad Miller, DT

That is not Ahmad Miller above.  I figured since I couldn't find a picture of him, I should at least give everyone something good to look at.

Ahmad Miller was drafted with the 261st pick of the 2002 NFL Draft by the Houston Texans.  He was released by the Texans, but he did make it through training camp at least.  He also spent time with the New York Giants on their practice squad.

Tim Toone was drafted with the 255th pick in the 2010 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions.

Toone was one of the last players cut from the Lions roster in 2010.  He was instantly brought back to be a part of the Lions practice squad, but suffered an injury in October.  However, the Lions re-signed Toone to a contract.

Toone still has a chance to play in the NFL.

6. Kevin McMahan, WR

Kevin McMahan was drafted with the 255th pick in the 2006 NFL Draft by the Oakland Raiders.

McMahan has been a member of many different practice squads.  The Raiders, Colts, Giants, Chiefs and Panthers all gave McMahan a shot to make their teams.  The closest he came to actually making a roster was in 2007 for the New York Giants.  McMahan led his team in receiving yards in the final preseason game.

Unfortunately, he was released by the Giants soon after that game.

5. Andre Sommersell, LB

Andre Sommersell was picked by that scary-looking man above with the 255th pick in the 2004 NFL Draft.

He never played in the NFL, but he did play in the CFL and NFL Europe.

He is currently the defensive coordinator for a German team named the Nuremberg Rams.

4. Ryan Hoag, WR

Ryan Hoag was drafted with the 232nd pick in the 2003 NFL Draft by the Oakland Raiders.

Is it just me or does it seem like Oakland drafts every single Mr. Irrelevant?  This is probably why they are not very good at football.

Hoag played college football at a Division III school, Gustavus Adolphus, where he also starred for the track team.  He has tried to play for the Oakland Raiders, New York Giants, Minnesota Vikings, Washington Redskins and Jacksonville Jaguars.  He has also played for a few UFL teams.

The only time he actually made an active roster was during the 2004 season with the Minnesota Vikings.  He was active for three games, but Hoag never saw the field.

Why is Hoag ranked fourth?  Well, in 2008 Hoag appeared on The Bachelorette.  He wasn't the last man picked this time and went home without a rose early in the show.

3. Ramzee Robinson, CB

Ramzee Robinson was drafted with the 255th pick in the 2007 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions.

Robinson has 29 career tackles.  He played his first NFL game for the Detroit Lions.  Since being cut by the Lions in 2009, he has been picked up by the Philadelphia Eagles, Cleveland Browns and Washington Redskins.  He is currently a free agent that could eventually land on a roster due to injuries.

2. David Vobora, OLB

David Vobora was drafted with the 252nd pick in the 2008 NFL Draft by the St. Louis Rams.

Vobora has played in 34 games for the Rams and has 99 career tackles and two career sacks.  He was on the practice squad during his rookie season until injuries allowed him to be a part of the active roster.  He made his first start in Week 13 of his rookie season against the Miami Dolphins.

During the 2009 season, Vobora was suspended for four games due to his violation of the NFL's performance-enhancing substance policy.

1. Ryan Succop, K

Ryan Succop was drafted with the 256th pick by the Kansas City Chiefs in 2009.  How can he be the best Mr. Irrelevant?

Did you see the rest of the players on this list?

Ryan Succop became the starting kicker for the Kansas City Chiefs.  He tied the NFL record for best field-goal percentage by a kicker.  He never missed an extra point and he had two game-winning field goals during his rookie season.  He was equally impressive during his sophomore season with the Chiefs.

Ryan Succop appears to have a bright future ahead of him kicking a football.  He clearly didn't let the Mr. Irrelevant label get to his head.
