NFL Draft 2011 Results: Recapping Draft Picks 29-32
The 2011 NFL draft results are here and we have covered nearly the entirety of the NFL draft. We have here the final four.
The teams that are considered the cream of the crop get some added talent to their already loaded rosters. The rich get extremely richer with the following four players.
It was a great first round in the 2011 NFL draft. There was a great deal of drama mixed with surprises. Quarterbacks were extremely popular, just as we thought.
The huge plummet of Da'Quan Bowers is a bit disconcerting. There is one team that is sure to grab the top ten talent in the second round on Friday.
Here we will break down the final four players taken in the first round.
Chicago Bears Take Gabe Carimi at No. 29
1 of 4
The Chicago Bears finally got the help they needed for Jay Cutler in the first round on Thursday.
The Bears like to get up the field. Their adoration with the long ball mandates that they have some depth at offensive line, something that was at a premium last year.
Carimi is a welcomed addition to a thin line. He has the bulk to not only keep Cutler safe as he waits for receivers to get open downfield, he will improve the running game for Matt Forte.
If you thought he was good last season, you haven't seen anything yet. Carimi is bulky, but he uses his girth well.
He moves well under pressure and has great footwork keeping him well in front of the attack. He is a smart player that will have no problem making the switch to the next level.
New York Jets Take Muhammad Wilkerson at No. 30
2 of 4
The New York Jets get added grit on the defensive line in the first round.
The Jets get fantastic value by taking Muhammad Wilkerson this late in the draft. I had him poised to go a bit earlier than this. He gets the Jets exactly what they need. He will surely make his presence felt to start the season.
The Jets are getting a bit older at defensive end. They still need a linebacker, but the pass rush gets an instant boost with Wilkerson.
He is a big boy that will do exceptionally well to stop the run. But he is not merely a one trick pony. Wilkerson has the explosiveness to get around the sides and put pressure on the quarterback.
He may not lead the league in sacks, but he will have enough to make the Jets a tough line to deal for the next few seasons.
Pittsburgh Steelers Take Cameron Heyward at No. 31
3 of 4
The Pittsburgh Steelers did exactly what they have excelled at in prior drafts.
The Steelers are great at restocking the cupboard ahead of need. This a great pick that will take a few seasons to really show its worth.
Cameron Heyward is a bit if a project. He will have the time to mature to the NFL game. He is already a great force on the line.
He is big, powerful and passionate. His success at getting to the quarterback is heavily reliant on his relentless pursuit. This guy just never gives up. Once he improves his technique he will be a star in the league.
The Steelers line is getting old, and this goes a long way to boost their defensive production for the future.
Green Bay Packers Take Derek Sherrod at No. 32
4 of 4
The Green Bay Packers made giant leaps to shore up their offensive line for the next few seasons.
The Packers had issues with the running game last season. It was a lack of depth on the line that caused some of those issues. The Packers want to do everything in their power to make sure Aaron Rodgers stays upright.
Derek Sherrod answers both.
Sherrod may not be the swiftest of foot, but he is a very intelligent player that loves the game. He may be stuck anchoring the right side.
However, his attention to detail may have him fill in at times on the blindside. Injuries are always a concern for an aging blocking corps. This pick gives them some fresh legs for a great many seasons.
Sherrod has terrific upper body strength that has allowed us to overlook his lower body. He has the time to mature and perfect every aspect of his game now. Slowly but surely, Sherrod will rise to the top as one of the better linemen in the game.
