2011 NFL Draft Results: Pittsburgh Steelers Select Cameron Heyward
After Mike Pouncey was selected by the Miami Dolphins, the dream scenario of the Pittsburgh Steelers reuniting the Pouncey brothers came to a crashing halt.
That wasn't the only bit of excitement on the night.
Two high end prospects: Prince Amukamara, CB, Nebraska and Cameron Jordan, DE, California both fell well below where they were expected to go, but none the less were drafted before the Steelers were up.
As the 31st selection approached, Pittsburgh had the option to take left tackle Derek Sherrod of Mississippi State, defensive end Cameron Heyward of Ohio State as well was cornerbacks Brandon Harris of Miami and Aaron Williams of Texas.
When the time come, the Pittsburgh Steelers selected Cameron Heyward of Ohio State.
As I predicted in my full first round mock draft, Heyward is an experienced defensive end who is a perfect fit in the Steelers 3-4 defense.
Though he won't start early on, Heyward will play behind Brett Keisel on the right side of the defensive line and could contribute in the rotation this season.
Heyward is both a good pass rusher and run stuffer and helps a very old defensive line get younger. He is an excellent first selection for the Steelers and will help improve an already great defensive line.
