2011 NFL Draft: Last Call, the Minnesota Vikings Pick QB Jake Locker
The rumors are going to rest very soon. The Minnesota Vikings will have to make a decision regarding the future of the franchise tonight.
Tonight the team will put it all on the line and take the exciting, but flawed, quarterback from Washington, Jake Locker.
While Locker is a high risk prospect, I believe that tonight Leslie Frazier and Rick Spielman will bite on him and ride into the new era. Nothing is without risk, so why not the quarterback?
Locker is the ideal leader and someone who will arrive first, leave last, and bleed on the field to get the job done. His ability to win despite having a poor team around him reminds me of Brett Favre during the early 2000s when Green Bay wasn't that good as a unit, but still won games on Favre's back.
The big knock on Locker has been his poor accuracy. But when you look at the Vikings offensive line and how they can't protect anyone, and then see Locker's numbers outside the pocket when on the run, it seems like a perfect fit for them both. Locker can learn to pass from the pocket and the line can improve, without being a detriment to each other.
Frazier has said it time and again, and I believe that while teams like to throw up smokescreens, this is not a moment where the Vikings are doing it. Frazier knows he needs his Jay Cutler, Aaron Rodgers, and Matthew Stafford if he expects to compete with any of them in the future.
So get ready to see Locker in purple and gold because I believe, without any doubt, that the Vikings will not be picking anything they deem safe. They will go high risk tonight, and hopefully be rewarded with their franchise quarterback for the next decade.
