Missouri-Oklahoma State: The Morning After
Ironically, this morning I woke up sick to my stomach. It may have been a mixture of the horrific Mizzou outing last night, the twelver of wings I devoured, and the ton of beer I drank throughout the day.
I imagine you may have that same sick feeling yourself. Seems pretty contagious.
- The OSU loss stings a bit more after the huge Texas win over Oklahoma earlier in the day. Texas looked damn good, and the Tigers and Horns had a good shot at a 1-2 matchup next week in Austin. No mas.
- Jeremy Maclin pulled a Houdini and disappeared.
- Was Derrick Washington used enough in the rushing attack? OSU had a lousy rush defense, but it seemed like DW wasn't used enough against their paper bag defense. He was used in the pass attack, but the Pokes weren't terrible against the pass. On the flip...
- The Mizzou secondary got lit up like a joint at a Dave Matthews Band show. Neutralize Dez Bryant. Check. Cover everyone else? Ehhhh. The ball took a couple of good bounces the Pokes way (i.e. that damn touchdown pass. Ridiculous), but when you're the No. 2 team in the nation and AT HOME, you have overcome those. The defense clamped when needed, but the game is 60 minutes, not eight minutes long only in the fourth quarter.
- Goodbye Heisman. Chase had the Heisman-defining drive in motion with time ticking away, and I felt he was going to do it. He felt he was going to do it. Hell, 65k at Faurot thought he was going to do it. Nope. Chase falls back to Mark Sanchez and Tim Tebow land, and let's be honest, if Tebow zipped up his pants, Verne Lundquist may fall off.
- National title hopes are still valid if the Tigers can win in Austin on Saturday. Texas looked GREAT on Saturday. The wild season has already taken most undefeated teams, and Okie State is a good team compared to Oregon State (beat USC) or Ole Misstress (beat Florida).
tOSU got embarrassed against USC, so you can see it's a circle jerk of good one-loss teams, but Mizzou has the best loss if there is such a thing. Well, Mizzou and Oklahoma.
The loss may have come at a perfect time for the Tigers. It makes them hungry for the Horns, and the Horns may be on a high after beating OU. Then again, the Horns are very good after the RRR game against Oklahoma.
- Mizzou is down to No. 11 in the AP Poll after the loss. Okie State is validated as a B12 South contender. They were my dark horse in the preseason, so I'll pat myself on the back.
