This system is meant to provide information about the quality of a team's wins and losses. It should be helpful in settling arguments about how top teams are ranked at the end of the season.

Right now Alabama and Oklahoma State have the most impressive victories because they beat top five teams on the road. Texas' win over Oklahoma was at a neutral site, so it cost them relative points.

At the bottom, despite Florida's win over LSU, they are still being slammed for losing to unranked Ole Miss at home.

Overranked/Underranked Watch

Clemson

This is going to be an important part of the system. Alabama received 5.5 points for beating Clemson the first week of the season when Clemson was ranked ninth.

As the season wears on, Clemson is looking more and more like a team that should never have been ranked in the top 10. If Clemson doesn't start playing a lot better, I will subtract points from Alabama at the end of the season.

Auburn

LSU got four points for beating Auburn on the road. Auburn was ranked 10th at the time. Unless Auburn turns things around, it might cost LSU later.

Illinois

Another team that is under performing relative to preseason expectations. Penn State and Missouri both got points for beating Illinois.

So far I'm not tracking any teams that may have been under ranked that could be affecting the point totals. An example of how this might occur is if say Ole Miss ends ranked in the top 20. Then I might have to not penalize Florida as much for losing to them early in the year.

How Points Are Awarded

3 points for a win against a team ranked 1-8
2 points for a win against a team ranked 8-16
1 point for a win against a team ranked 16-25

-3 points for a loss to an unranked team
-2 points for a loss to a team ranked 10-25
-1 point for a loss to a team ranked 1-10

Points are doubled for losses at home and wins on the road. 50 percent adjustment for wins and losses at neutral sites.

A single discretionary "style" point can be deducted or added depending on whether a win or loss is lopsided.

Points are also subject to end of season adjustment depending on a determination of under or over ranking of a team's opponents.
