Here’s a look at the unheralded fantasy baseball players who played well yesterday.
Milwaukee Brewers at Philadelphia Phillies
Placido Polanco went 1-for4 with a home run and three RBI (15). Ryan Madson struck out two in a scoreless inning of relief for the win.
Washington Nationals at St. Louis Cardinals (Game 1)
Danny Espinosa went 3-for5 with two runs. Ian Desmond went 1-for-4 with two RBI. He also stole home. Laynce Nix went 2-for-4 with two runs, a homer and two RBI. Ryan Theriot went 4-for-5 with a run.
Washington Nationals at St. Louis Cardinals (Game 2)
Yadier Molina went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Rick Ankiel went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Mitchell Boggs got the call to nail down the save and he succeeded.
San Francisco Giants at Colorado Rockies
Seth Smith went 2-for-3 with three runs and two RBI. Ty Wiggington went 1-for-4 with a home run and four RBI. Jose Morales went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Ryan Spilborghs hit a three-run homer. Freddy Sanchez went 2-for-3 with a run. Jorge de la Rosa gave up two runs on four hits with six strikeouts in seven innings to improve to 3-0 with a 3.00 ERA.
Detroit Tigers at Seattle Mariners
Ryan Raburn went 1-for-4 with two runs and a homer. Adam Kennedy went 2-for-4 with a homer. Rick Porcello gave up one run on four hits with six strikeouts in 6.2 innings for the win.
San Diego Padres at Chicago Cubs (Game 1)
Kosuke Fukudome went 2-for-2. Jason Bartlett went 3-for-4 with a run. Nick Hundley went 2-for-6. Will Venable went 1-for-5 with three stolen bases. Ryan Ludwick went 2-for-4. Dustin Moseley and Matt Garza each threw six scoreless innings, but they did not factor into the decision.
San Diego Padres at Chicago Cubs (Game 2)
Chris Denorfia went 3-for-5 with a home run. Cameron Maybin went 2-for-4 with two runs, a homer and a stolen base. Ryan Ludwick went 3-for-4 with two runs, a home run and two RBI. Kosuke Fukudome went 2-for-5. Darwin Barney went 2-for-5 with an RBI. Reed Johnson went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Aaron Harang gave up two runs with five strikeouts in six innings to improve to 4-0 with a 1.88 ERA.
Boston Red Sox at Oakland A’s
Jed Lowrie went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI to raise his average to .462. Marco Scutaro was 2-for-4. Coco Crisp was 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBI. Mark Ellis went 2-for-4. Hideki Matsui went 2-for-4 with a run. Clay Buchholz gave up one run in 5.1 innings for the win.
Chicago White Sox at Tampa Bay Rays
Matt Joyce went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Casey Kotchman went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI. John Jaso went 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBI. Reid Brignac went 2-for-3 with a run. Wade Davis gave up one run in seven innings to improve to 2-2 with a 2.73 ERA.
Minnesota Twins at Baltimore Orioles
Matt Wieters hit a home run and two RBI. Adam Jones went 1-for-3 with a run and two RBI. Jason Kubel went 2-for-4 with a run. Michael Cuddyer went 1-for-3 with two runs and a homer. Danny Valencia went 2-for-4 with three RBI.
New York Yankees at Toronto Blue Jays
Nick Swisher went 1-for-3 with two runs. Russell Martin went 2-for-3 with a run. Yunel Escobar went 2-for-5. Travis Snider went 2-for-4. Bartolo Colon gave up one run on five hits with seven strikeouts in 6.2 innings to improve to 1-1 with a 3.50 ERA.
Arizona Diamondbacks at Cincinnati Reds
Stephen Drew went 2-for-4 with two runs. Ian Kennedy gave up one run on four hits in 5.1 innings to improve to 2-1. Bronson Arroyo gave up three runs with eight strikeouts in 6.1 innings, but took the loss.
Houston Astros at New York Mets
Brett Wallace and Chris Johnson went 2-for-4 with a run. Daniel Murphy went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI.
Pittsburgh Pirates at Florida Marlins
Chris Coghlan went 2-for-5 with a run and three RBI. John Buck went 2-for-4 with a run. Emilio Benifacio 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Matt Diaz went 2-for-4. Ricky Nolasco gave up four hits with eight strikeouts in seven scoreless innings to improve to 2-0 with a 3.00 ERA.
Los Angels Angels of Anaheim at Texas Rangers
Matt Harrison had a decent game, allowing three runs on four hits with five strikeouts in 6.2 innings, but it was Jeff Weaver’s complete game that told the story.
Cleveland Indians at Kansas City Royals
Asdrubal Cabrera went 2-for-4 with two runs. Travis Hafner went 2-for-5 with an RBI. Michael Brantley went 1-for-3 with two runs. Matt LaPorta went 1-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Jack Hannahan went 2-for-4 with two RBI. Melky Cabrera went 1-for-3 with two runs and an RBI. Jeff Francoeur went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI (15). Kila Ka’aihue went 2-for-3. Justin Masterson gave up two runs in six innings to improve to 4-0 with a 1.71 ERA.
Atlanta Braves at Los Angeles Dodgers
Casey Blake went 2-for-4 with two runs. Juan Uribe went 3-for-4 with four RBI. Nate McLouth was 2-for-3 with a run.
