Brian Boucher Mask Video: See Why Flyers Goalie Isn't as Cool as Jhonas Enroth
There's a Brian Boucher mask video making the rounds today, after the Flyers goalie caused a bit of controversy with a hardware malfunction during Monday's Game 3 clash with the Buffalo Sabres.
With 12 minutes to play in the third period, the Sabres were on a two-man advantage and trailing by a goal. They held the puck deep in the offensive zone, and a cross ice pass from Thomas Vanek to Tyler Ennis resulted in a quick shot that deflected off Boucher's mask and back into Ennis' possession behind the net.
However, the shot had damaged the mask in some way, and Boucher pulled it off, letting it fall to the ice. The instant it did, the referee blew the play dead, drawing boos and howls from the Buffalo crowd.

While it's an NHL rule that the referee must stop play when a goalie's mask comes off, it's understandable that Sabres fans were irked. Their team held the momentum and the two-man advantage over the Flyers, so for them, stopping play was fairly damaging.
As if that weren't enough reason to be mad, Sabres fans likely remembered an incident on April 4 against the Carolina Hurricanes.
In that game, Sabres goalie Jhonas Enroth couldn't get the official to stop play even after he'd ripped his mask off, and was forced to make a save in order to force the issue. Why was the rule enforced for Boucher and not for Enroth? Was it because the Flyers' goalie's mask hit the ice?
Whatever the reason, the Sabres fell 4-2 in the game, but at least Buffalo fans can take solace knowing how much cooler their backup goalie is than Philly's current starter.
