Allsports Feels for Diehard Chicago Cubs Fans

Walt WebbOct 5, 2008

I watched all the Cubs games on TV in their playoff series against the Dodgers and although it was a sports news spectacle on TV and on the web, the Cubs performance to quote an old Led Zeppelin tune, left me “dazed and confused”. How could a team that managed 97 wins in the regular season be so inept for three games straight in the playoffs. You have to give Joe Torre and the whole Dodger team credit for their execution but this was more a matter of the Cubs playing like a bunch of minor leaguer’s and beating themselves.

I game one the cubbie’s pitcher could not find the strike zone and gave up 7 walks most of which ended up coming in to score. In game two, brutal defence gave the Dodgers 4 or 5 outs in a couple of innings and the Dodgers made them pay. Last night the cubs could not get runners across when it mattered and seemed like they could not get a hit even if they were playing whiffle ball. I picked the Cubs to come through this round, boy was I wrong, so much for picking with your heart, lol. I did the same thing with the L.A. Angels in that post, thinking that they would finally get the Boston post season monkey off their back, but that does not seem to be the case either. If the Angels don’t win in Boston today, their gone too. Boston will be very tough to beat as they are a team of consummate professionals who very rarely beat themselves. They are my second favorite team, but I was hoping for some fresh blood in the World Series. So right now it looks like I may get to 500 on my first round picks, lol. That’s why they have the old saying, anything can happen, once the games are played.

For more sports news on the web, here is an article on TSN, which pretty well sums up the Cubs miserable performance.

On a side note, who’s laughing now you Yankees for letting Joe Torre go. He is is the playoffs and your at home watching his team. Where was Reed Johnson in the series, shame on you Lou
