How to Save Wrestling in 365 days

Daris BrownOct 5, 2008

The glory days of wrestling are far behind us. A decade behind us in fact. There are no more Monday night wars. No more battles between top organizations. No more reason to get excited about the upcoming action.

Now maybe it's the spoiled, I need you to top last week, fan inside of me talking but there are zero surprises left in pro wrestling. I know Triple H is going hit the pedigree for the win... again. I know TNA's gimmick matches are a failed attempt to one-up the WWE. And I know that the ratings reflect an era of lackluster wrestling. But above all else, I know how to remedy the situation.

Anybody who geeks out on pro wrestling knows that it follows a pretty reliable trend. It was real cool in the mid-80s, low in the early 90s, it's best ever in the late 90s, boring as all get out in the early 2000s and now it's time for it to get hot again. But it can only do this by reviving the Monday Night Wars... err, wrong.

Wrestling fans have already seen the whole Monday night wars thing, so if you think that's gonna be the saving grace you're wrong. Like any other event in wrestling, this has to be taken up a notch. Like joint shows between the WWE and TNA.

Before you get all bent out of shape and say never, Vince already did it with ECW on a minor scale. Yeah, TNA is bigger than ECW, but I would argue there not at a level that WCW was. Hence, they are still not a threat to Vince. And although Mr. McMahon has been known to refuse to work with anyone he doesn't get along with (Macho who?). But we also know he does whatever is good for business and has welcomed people who've burnt him in the past (he worked with Bret after getting punched in the face).

So here goes it. The war will begin the night of Wrestlemania XXIV. Throughout the night you will see ex-WWE stars in the crowd (without acknowledgement from the announcers) and in the luxury boxes. Maybe there here to watch their friends, much like Kevin Nash this year. You will have Triple H versus Edge for the world heavyweight title in the main event. And right as The Game has Edge in position for a pedigree, in flies Christian, who's been wrestling without a contract, with a spear. Edge looks up, goes for the cover, 1-2-3 new champ. He stands up to embrace the returning friend, only to be left standing in the middle of the ring.

The following Monday night, Edge calls out Christian welcome him back home and to thank him, but he's interrupted by Vince who lets it be known that they were in talks with Christian, but he has not been signed. Therefore he will not be allowed in the building as he's not under contract. (Christian left for TNA on bad terms with Vince) So Christian slides into the ring, stares Vince down and security is called. Only the security that shows up is ex-WWE superstars under police helmets. They beat up Vince, while Edge stands frozen as he looks between Vince and Christian.

The feud jumps back and forth between brands, with Jeff sending Angle to compete in the Royal Rumble... he of course wins and goes on to Wrestlemania. Vince is livid and Wrestlemania is deemed the war between brands. Here's your line up for Wrestlemania.

John Cena/The Colons vs. Sting/Motor City Machine Guns

Kane and Undertaker vs. Abyss and Mick Foley - Monsters Brawl (Special Guest referees Big Show and Matt Morgan

Beth Phoenix vs. Mickie James vs. Melina vs. Taylor Wilde vs. Awesome Kong vs. ODB
