NFL Draft 2011: Tampa Bay Buccaneers Should Beware of Da'Quan Bowers
Heard the interesting rumors that Da'Quan Bowers' stock is dropping by the day.
Seems the guy had a fairly unimpressive showing at his pro day, and now some pundits are giddy that this guy could fall all the way to the 20th pick in a few weeks and into the open arms of Mark Dominik and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Let's simply pull a Lee Corso and say, "Not so fast my friends!"
The last time Da'Quan Bowers took to the field for Clemson, it was against the University of South Florida in the Meineke Car Care Bowl last December. I heard all the pregame hype about what a beast Bowers was, what a force he was, what a great pass rusher he was and how he'd simply feast on the USF offensive line. It was supposed to be a real Bulls barbecue for Mr. Bowers.
With great interest, I watched him VERY closely the entire game, knowing the jolly Tampa Bay Buccaneers could sure use a nice defensive end, a true pass-rush beast of sorts, and everyone was raving about Bowers.
When all was said and done and Skip Holtz and his Bulls de-pantsed Clemson, Bowers laid a giant egg on the field. It was as if he wasn't there. He was no factor, zip, nada, who is he?
Watch the film. Isn't that what the true draft experts say?
I watched Bowers, and he flat-out stunk.
Now, something tells me that most of the offensive lines in the NFL are somewhat better than South Florida's, so what does that tell us about the upside of one Da'Quan Bowers?
Can't tell you if he had this mysterious knee injury before that game, but his stock has dropped like a 1980s high-tech turd.
The Bucs are going to work this guy out and obviously draw their own conclusions.
But for now, there looks to be plenty of uncertainty about this guy to just say "no" to Da'Quan Bowers, even at No. 20.
