This match is getting a lot of flack from some of the fans and of course the irritable members of the IWC, but let's take a look at the Breakdown, the Prediction and The BOOM of it all.
BREAKDOWN:
Team 1 consists of John Morrison, Trish Stratus and Snooki. Morrison is a highly popular, good performer and let's face it, good-looking guy who's abs make The Situation look like a wanna-be.
Stratus is one of the new trainers on the revived series Tough Enough that starts airing Monday night after WrestleMania and is probably one of the greatest Diva champions of all time, if not the greatest.
Snooki, aka Nicole Polizzi, is the star of the hugely popular MTV show The Jersey Shore, and she's pop culture's flavor of the year.
We've seen her get punched, we've seen her throw up, and we've seen her dishing out some beatings as well; hell, she gives more of a bad-ass chick vibe than Alicia Fox.
On Team 2, we have Dolph Ziggler, and Lay-Cool, with Vickie Guerrero in their corner. Is it me or am I remembering wrong...wasn't Vickie at first a part of this match? (No. - ED.)
Ziggler, Vickie's current boy toy and former Spirit Squad member, has grown quiet a bit since his cheerleading days and his constant introducing himself in the back.
Combined with the greatest female heels of all time, Lay-Cool, a bold statement? I think not.
Michelle McCool, while she gets flack for being married to The Undertaker, is a top performer in the ring and just downright beautiful.
Layla, with her snooty British accent and devilish smile, has been a constant steady performer and has really found her niche with McCool. The two of them portray themselves as perfect 'mean girls;' you can't help but hate them.
So the question, 'why is this match taking place' should be easily answered if we look at the history of WrestleMania.
Every year there's at least one match that is somewhat of a 'gimmick' match, that is more about the attention rather than the match itself.
Last year was McMahon vs. Bret Hart; the year before we had Jericho vs. legends Steamboat, Snuka and Piper; and of course we had Big Show vs. Floyd Mayweather.
So puttng Snooki and Trish in a match is just that another gimmick match that's good for publicity and brings in some viewers. It may not have before and if you have a household where someone isn't into wrestling, they still might watch this match to see what happens.
PREDICTION
Snooki is winning this one all the way, I wouldn't even be surprised if she gets the pin, and after seeing her do a moderate Lou Thesz press the other night I can't say I'd be against seeing it happen.
Morrison and Ziggler will carry the match and make it bearable, Trish will probably get off a couple of her signature moves, but lets hope they don't get botched like they have been lately.
I'm sure at some point Vickie will get involved and someone will put her in her place, but in the end, this one is going to Morrison and his team for the win.
HERE COMES THE BOOM
Lets be honest: the Divas matches are usually the low points of the night; with Eve Torres as champ, the division has been in a bit of a slump.
With only Lay-Cool able to cut a heel promo, its not easy for any of the face Divas to have a good rivalry.
So to avoid a bad Diva match at this year's WrestleMania, McMahon saved it by putting in two great mid-card guys who can put on a good show and not lose any cred for being in this match; and he made it the gimmick match to draw publicity.
It's a win-win-win, so while the people who enjoy watching wrestling matches of guys on VHS tapes or online will have a problem with it, as well as those who don't understand the way the mid-card works and continue to shout to have Morrison be the WWE champ, we true lovers of the sport and respecters of the trade get the BOOM factor and are happy to watch it happen.
