NFL Draft? These Top 10 Undrafted Players Made It Just Fine Without It
With all the NFL draft talk, and measuring guys in their underwear, I wish more general managers would simply roll the film, or have genius like Gil Brandt to project a guy, and how he could play in the NFL.
Year after year, these so-called experts blow it (Kurt Warner, John Randle, Warren Moon, Cliff Harris, Cornell Green, Drew Pearson, Priest Holmes, Donnie Shell, Everson Walls); the list is endless. These guys play with a serious chip on their shoulder.
Give me a team with these "undrafted" players, and I would win you an NFL Title. So, if you don't get your "dream" pick, hope your GM is smart enough to grab someone like these top 10 guys!
Antonio Gates, TE
1 of 10
Antonio Gates, Tight End, Kent State
Six Pro Bowls and three All-Pro selections.
Former hoops player will end up as one of the top five all-time tight ends in NFL history. Also, simply a BEAST in MADDEN!
Tony Romo, QB
2 of 10
Tony Romo, Quarterback, Eastern Illinois. Out of that powerhouse college program, Romo already has 3 Pro Bowl selections, awesome looking girlfriends, and a great golf game. He will end up breaking all the Cowboy passing records, including the greatest quarterback of all-time, Roger Staubach.
Adam Vinatieri, K
3 of 10
Adam Vinatieri, K South Dakota State. Of course all the great kickers come out of South Dakota State. With 4 Super Bowl Rings, two game winners in those four, 2 All- Pro selections, Adam is considered one of the best clutch kickers of all -time. He can kick for my team of free agents any time!
Jeff Saturday, C
4 of 10
Jeff Saturday, Center, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Saturday has played a lot of Sunday's. 4 Pro Bowl's, 2 All-Pro's , a Super Bowl ring. How did those brilliant GM's miss on this Tar Heel?
James Harrison, LB
5 of 10
James Harrison, LB Kent State (that's two on this list from Kent State - book your reservations now!). Who could forget his Super Bowl interception and run? 2008 Defensive Player of the Year was cut three times. That is an awful big chip on his shoulder!
Cullen Jenkins, DT
6 of 10
Cullen Jenkins, Defensive Tackle, Central Michigan. One of the best interior lineman in the game today. Anchors the middle of the Super Bowl Champions defense, and a Dom Capers favorite. Had 7 sacks last year, which is a lot for a defensive tackle. He can start for my team any day.
Josh Cribbs, WR/KR
7 of 10
Josh Cribbs, Kent State (ok, that is three now on the list from Kent State, see a trend here?). The former QB is simply one of the best return men and threats in the game. Named to the NFL's All Decade Team for 2000's, Cribbs has the NFL record for kickoff returns for touchdowns with 8. Also tied the NFL record for 2 touchdowns of 100 yards or more in a single game.
Shaun O'Hara
8 of 10
Shaun O'Hara, Center, Rutgers. Made his third consecutive Pro Bowl this season. Anchored the Giants line in Super Bowl XLII. Originally signed by the Browns (nice move Browns), the guy is a leader, and although he battled injuries last year, still one of the All-TIme great NFL centers to play the game.
London Fletcher, LB
9 of 10
London Fletcher, LB, John Carroll University. Never heard of the "Blue Streaks"? Neither have I, but this guy is one of the All-Time under rated players. The only thing he did was lead the NFL in tackles during the decade of the 2000's. Named a Pro Bowl alternate 8 times, he finally made his first Pro Bowl and "only" had 136 tackles last year. One of the really good guys in the NFL, he has been nominated for the Walter Payton Man of the Year award. Time to give this guy his due as one of the best ever to put on a uniform.
Wes Welker, WR
10 of 10
Wes Welker, WR Texas Tech. Originally signed by the Chargers, one of the Patriots greatest grabs. Tom Brady's favorite target and safety blanket, Welker is simply one of the game's best clutch receiver's. He always seems to make the big catch, and is tough as nails. Has been named All-Pro in 2009, and came back last year from a serious knee injury to be named in the 2011 Pro Bowl. Enough said.
