Tony Romo: 10 Predictions for His 2011 Season
Believe it or not, I actually like Tony Romo. The Cowboys quarterback is one of the best in the league and if Jerry ever chose to part ways with the Wisconsin product then he can kiss any Super Bowl chances he had goodbye. Plus, you have a Redskins team just dying to get their hands on a good quarterback.
Now don’t get me wrong, Romo still has growing to do. He still had issues recognizing blitz packages and can still make the occasional bad throw. Yet in still Dallas has a great chance of making it to the big game with Romo as the signal caller.
But Tony’s getting a little older and he’s coming off of a collarbone injury he suffered early in the 2010 season. With so many questions surrounding the team as a whole, how will Tony perform next season? Well, whenever the National Football League decides to play.
Here are 10 predictions for Tony’s 2011 season. Well, whenever—you get the picture.
Tony Will Flourish in Garrett’s Offensive System
1 of 10
Sounds cliché right? Romo has been in Garrett’s system for awhile, however, this is his first year playing under Garrett as head coach. Garrett isn’t one to shy away from passing the ball and Romo likes to sling it.
My only question for Jason is if he’s going to balance his playbook out a little or will he continue to rely on Tony’s right arm to win games? If so, Tony should have another banner year.
Romo Leads the Cowboys to the Playoffs
2 of 10
I think the Cowboys have a nice shot at making it back to the playoffs this year as Romo returns from injury, and the team should see a boost from the draft and free agency.
The offensive line should be improved if the team decides to draft Tyron Smith from USC and the running game will be just as strong with or without Marion Barber. Can’t say for sure if Dallas will make it past the wildcard round but they will have a great chance to make it back to the postseason.
Tony Will Play All 16 Games
3 of 10
I think, if anything, Tony will be out to prove that he’s durable enough and competent enough to lead the Cowboys back to the promise land.
The last time Romo played all 16 games he threw for almost 4,500 yards and had single-digit interceptions. The NFC East better watch out if that happens because its not like the Redskins or Giants are beating down the door to the playoffs.
Romo Becomes a More Vocal Leader
4 of 10
This is something that has been on the minds of Cowboys fans for a minute now.
Will Tony ever step up to become the unquestioned leader of this team?
Next season will be crucial for Tony and Jason and with Garrett being such a vocal and assertive head coach hopefully Romo will follow his lead.
Romo Will Toss 30 Touchdown Passes
5 of 10
I really believe that Tony will have a great season next year. He’s out to prove the naysayers wrong, and Garrett will give him all of the ammo he needs to do so.
With Dez having another year of Garrett’s offense under his belt and Austin continuing to develop, Tony will have a plethora of weapons at his disposal. Tight end Jason Witten will continue to be his safety valve and maybe, just maybe, receiver Roy Williams will finally have a break out season.
Romo Will Throw Double Digit Interceptions
6 of 10
Tony threw 36 touchdowns and 19 picks in his second year as starter and those numbers decreased in his third full season under center.
I believe his mistakes will go down again, but if Garrett continues his unbalanced offensive attack by having Tony sling it 25 or 30 times a game, his opportunities to make mistakes will only increase.
Tony Passes Don Meredith for Fourth on All Time Passing List
7 of 10
Romo currently sits as fifth-best passer in Cowboys history with 16,650 passing yards, with only 549 yards separating him and Don Meredith.
Meredith is a beloved Cowboys legend and Tony passing him would only validate his worth in the eyes of some fans. But once he passes Dan he’ll have the former Cowboys to whom he’s most compared with to catch: Danny White.
White has 21,959 passing yards in his career and Romo would need a Dan Marino type of season to pass him.
Dez Bryant Becomes Romo’s Favorite Target
8 of 10
Not saying that Witten will take a backseat or anything, but with Bryant’s speed and ability to break free from coverage’s I stand to believe that he will become one of Tony’s favorite receivers.
Bryant is still learning Garrett’s offense but as he becomes more accustomed Tony will have no choice but to pass to a guy who has the amount of talent of a Dez Bryant.
Tony Leads the Cowboys to Challenge for the NFC East
9 of 10
The Giants are just, meh, and the Redskins still have a long way to go.
The Cowboys and Eagles seem to be the most stable of teams in the division, and I would take their quarterback situations over that of the Giants and Redskins.
That is why Romo and the ‘Boys will challenge for the NFC East divisional crown next season.
Romo’s Pending Marriage Actually Helps His Play Instead of Hurting It
10 of 10
We all remember Jessica Simpson and Carrie Underwood and how many people thought that Tony was too distracted with both women to fully concentrate on football.
I think Romo getting married will bring more stability to his play on the field and will only aid the young quarterback to bigger and better things on the football field.
