Oct 4. Judgement Day: Can Shamrock Silence The Critics?

Ryan PetrikOct 1, 2008

Saturday brings with it the promise of something amazing. Not only is the ever stunning (inside and out of the cage) Gina Carano looking to improve her stellar undefeated record on the women's side; always potent Jake Shields is working to keep his winning streak alive. Shields is always awesome to watch; and with wins over notables: Sakuari, Condit, Okami, etc. this fighters skills will be on display once again. With that being said, this night is further over shadowed by the main event. "The World's Most Dangerous Man," will be stepping into the ring with one of MMA's newest and most talked about personalities. Kimbo Slice is an area of debate whether it comes from his trainer Bas Rutten or UFC veteran Tim Sylvia. Shamrock will be looking to snap a losing streak that could be called questionable. His high price tag and unsatisfying defeats raise some contention as to whether or not fights have been thrown; however the fighters to which he has lost have not been pushovers. Two losses to Tito Ortiz, Kazushi Sakuraba, and Rich Franklin are not defined as easy, but still, questions remain. Slice will be fighting in front of his hometown crowd, but with that being said, fighting at home adds more pressure, and is only effective if fights go to a decision.

This fight should pose interesting, Shamrock who has been seen as a fall man lately will be going against Kimbo who has arguably been kept guarded by EliteXC Director/President of Live Events Gary Shaw. Without any real competition to test Kimbo, there can be no true judge to how good he is, or his future in the sport. An overnight sensation due to his rough and tumble background, Kimbo is heading into the cage to go, toe to toe with one of the most recognizable men in all of MMA with exceptions made for Royce Gracie and Fedor Emelianenko

Whatever happens, Saturday night will be a much talked about event. Which ever way the fight goes, the winner and loser will both be discussed around water coolers, blogs, and within the MMA community. I am not one to predict how a fight will go, but I am always up for entertainment left to the hands of men capable of destruction.
