MLB Daily Market Wrap Up: Playoffs Begin

Moving Today's Market

After an exciting one-game playoff between the Twins and White Sox, the playoffs begin in earnest today. Cole Hamels and the Phillies are the heaviest favorites in today's games, as they host Yovani Gallardo and the Brewers.

Philadelphia opened as -196 favorites at Pinnacle, but are currently sitting at -229 while receiving 64 percent of money-line wagers. The movement for the Phillies occurred throughout the marketplace and created multiple Steam Moves on the Phillies.

In the day's second matchup, the Dodgers send Derek Lowe to the mound in hopes of stealing a game from Ryan Dempster and the Cubs at Wrigley Field. The money-line bets are pretty evenly split, but the line has moved the North Siders from -153 favorites at Pinnacle to -145 favorites.

In late-night action for bettors on the East Coast, the Red Sox will send lefty Jon Lester to the mound against John Lackey and the Angels. The Angels are being backed by 60 percent of the public's money-line bets, and the line has moved accordingly.

Los Angeles opened as -114 favorites at Pinnacle, but are currently sitting at -130. There was a steam move triggered on the Angels during this line movement.

Tomorrow's Market Mover

There's another trio of divisional playoff games on tap. The Brewers send CC Sabathia to the mound on three days' rest against the Phillies and Brett Myers. Carlos Zambrano and the Cubs will look to shut down Chad Billingsley and the Dodgers on the North Side of Chicago. The Rays send James Shields to the mound in their first ever playoff game as they host Javier Vazquez and the Chicago White Sox.
