Imagine What an Idiot Arsene Wenger Would Be If .......

Mary O'SheaSep 30, 2008

He listened to the anyone but himself!!

Ok, maybe that is a little harsh on the other three billion people that inhabit this world but you get what I'm saying.

For three days the Arsenal manager had once again to put up with questions regarding the style of Arsenal's play, his reliance on youth, his unwillingness to bring in a big name signing.

Now we are used to hearing this from the media, supporters of rival clubs and commentators but rarely from Arsenal's own fans as happened following Saturday's shock home defeat to Hull.

Yes, it did hurt, losing to Hull a newly promoted side, in fact one that had never played at the top level in England. But I ask you, who died?

The response was unprecedented. Yes, on paper, Arsenal should of beaten Hull but as the saying goes "you win nothing on paper". Hull have suprised many and are currently sixth with 11 points. The other top teams will have bad days too, Spurs had a mere two points this term, one of them came away to Chelsea.

Besides, it was not as if Arsenal played too bad, the defending from set pieces was weak, but in my opinion it was one of those days. S*** happens, the telling thing is how the team reacts.

And my, how did they reply against Porto.

Except the 4-0 may never have happened if Le Boss had listened to the nay-sayers.

Drop Gallas they said. Drop Van Persie and Adebayor too, that'll teach 'em.

Thankfully Wenger is not that kind of a manager. He is not about punishing players, he is about nurturing and believing.

The outcome?

Arsenal 4 Porto 0.

And who was it that scored? Agh yes, two guys called Robin and Emmanuel. For the life of me I can't remember their surnames!! Could it be the same Van Persie and Adebayor Wenger would be a fool for not dropping?

I wonder if that little giggle Arsene had with Pat Rice last night was at the skill Vela showed in around the box or at his critics?

Now, I am well aware that one victory does not make Arsenal world-beaters but one defeat does not make Arsenal losers.

As England U-21 manager Stuart Pearce said last night, Wenger doesn't have the big bucks to compete with Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City in the transfer market. He reportedly has £30 million, what is he expected to buy with that - Robinho's eyebrow?

So he must stick to what he always does, to his mantra, to believing in youth and beautiful football.

Yes, indeed Arsenal are a big club and should be winning trophies. However what do you folks want - to have beautiful football and young, hungry players or be owned by a oil rich Russian billionaire who uses the football club as a play thing?

Yeah I thought so...

Wenger has brought huge success to North London and without doubt some of the best football in the world. Arsenal fans were giving their season tickets back in droves before the Frenchman took over, now for love nor money could you get your hand on one. Well actually that's a lie, but there will be 40,000 other people in front of you in the queue.

The thing about Arsenal is that we are not Manchester United, we are not Chelsea, we are not Manchester City, we are not Liverpool and thank the Lord we are not Newcastle United. We are Arsenal, a club who will not shell out big salaries and outlandish transfer fees for players that are but men.

Manchester City offer £135 million for a Kaka or a Ronaldo. If they succeed and either player get an injury similar to Eduardo's tell me what good did their £135 million do?

No, lets keep developing the young and exciting Wilsheres, Fabregas', Walcotts, Clichys and Djourous and our day will come because Wenger knows!

In Arsene We Trust!!
