WWE NXT: Eight Potential Storylines for NXT Season 4 Rookie Brodus Clay

Graham GSM MatthewsMar 15, 2011

For the small percentage of wrestling fans who actually watched the WWE NXT Season Four finale via WWE.com, R-Truth's rookie Johnny Curtis emerged as the winner.

Now I know this seems like old news now with Season Five already begun, however, and correct me if I'm wrong, I haven't noticed any articles on Season Four Rookie Brodus Clay specifically. It would seem logical to write an article on the man who won the show, Johnny Curtis, but I see much more potential in Clay than I do Brodus.

As the special enforcer of Alberto Del Rio, especially on the Road to WrestleMania, the future looks extremely bright for Snoop Dogg's former bodyguard. With WWE officials also high on Clay recently, especially after the five-star promo he cut on the finale, sky's the limit.

So sit back and relax, Bleachers, as I present to you eight potential story lines I predict that could make Brodus Clay a breakout star in WWE.

Kofi Kingston

Although the in-ring styles of Clay and Kingston may not mix, Kingston has showcased decent matches with giants such as Big Show, Kane and Sheamus in the past. Brodus Clay, for those of you not familiar with him, garnered the best win-loss record of all the rookies throughout the season, with a total record of 7-4.

According to inside sources, Clay worked off nearly 100 pounds in preparation for WWE NXT, which received praise from officials backstage. In my opinion, Clay was probably the best wrestler of all the rookies on Season Four and has the ability to put on a decent match.

The Intercontinental Championship would add more to this feud if it was on the line, and at the same time possibly giving Clay his first taste of gold in WWE.

Kane

Every heavyweight coming through the WWE usually goes through Kane, just ask The Great Khali, Mark Henry and Umaga. The Big Red Monster has a tendency to be able put over other talent on the verge of a major push, a quality that has been despised by wrestling fans for years due to the misusing of his talent.

Brodus Clay and Kane certainly have chemistry, and could put on a decent match by today's standards. With Kane possibly turning face and both stars staying on SmackDown after WreslteMania, a rivalry between the two would be likely.

Big Show

Much like Kane, Big Show is another prefect opponent for any heavyweight attempting to make an impact in the WWE. An obvious example is Wade Barrett and the Corre, whom he happens to be feuding with right now.

The height difference between Show and Clay is a little off, but proven by Ezekiel Jackson the last few months, power overcomes size. An upset win over the veteran Big Show could do wonders for Clay and certainly set up bigger things.

What happened to Brock Lesnar and John Cena after feuding with Big Show? There's your answer.

Edge

A feud between these two could be interesting for Clay, tying back to Clay's ending promo on the NXT Season Finale two weeks ago. For those who have not heard of this epic promo, Brodus Clay explained how he was "going to take all our heroes away."

As a veteran and big main event player on SmackDown, Edge could be the first one on Clay's hit-list following WrestleMania. Remember, with the possibility of Clay in Del Rio's corner for the World Heavyweight Championship Match at WrestleMania, Clay could easily cost Edge the World Championship.

However, it is very unlikely, as Del Rio is the one heel in WWE today who can win a match clean. The possibility of a Clay-Edge feud, would get Brodus over big time.

Sooner or later, every apprentice will outgrow (or in pro wrestling, turn on) their respective master. Unless you're Alex Riley, where you just get fired.

A feud between Brodus Clay and Alberto Del Rio is always possible, but would it make any sense? Both Clay and Del Rio make excellent heels, so Clay turning on Del Rio wouldn't be logical.

If anything, it would lead to a future World Championship opportunity for Clay, and add more depth into his character of "his time."

Christian

Brodus Clay and Christian are the odd men out of the Edge and Del Rio feud heading into WrestleMania, so why not develop a rivalry between the two?

Christian could be Clay's stepping stone to get to Edge, or the first "hero" he plans to knock off. A match between Clay and Christian took place last week on RAW, which turned out to be a successful experiment.

These two work well, and I hope to see more from them on SmackDown in the near future.

The Undertaker

Nearly every good heel that comes through the SmackDown brand crosses path with the Deadman, the Undertaker. With Clay's mic skills, a feud between the two powerhouses could be interesting.

I'd give this rivalry time to develop, as Clay still needs improvement in-ring for now. Remember when The Great Khali first came to the blue brand and physically dominated Taker? Hopefully Clay can earn that same push.

John Cena

Brodus Clay's final victim would be none other than John Cena. With both having a background in something rapping related, promos could bring in money, and not to mention heat, for Brodus Clay.

No matter what the criticism of John Cena's wrestling abilities, he is successful at putting over younger talent such as Sheamus and Wade Barrett. Clay reminds me somewhat of the late Umaga—being foreign, husky build and impressive move-set.

If Cena could put over Umaga as top heel on RAW in 2007, the same could be done for Clay in a feud that could escalate Clay to new heights.
