Alfred KonuwaMar 12, 2011

In honor of the March Madness College Basketball Tournament Juggernaut, Bleacher Report presents its first annual Mark Madness pro wrestling tournament dedicated to current stars in WWE and TNA.

Mark Madness is a simulated 64-wrestler tournament that decides best of the best in the wrestling industry via Internet voting from both informed and casual pro wrestling fans.

In order to qualify for the tournament, participants must be active wrestlers who work at least semi-regularly. Retired wrestlers, or wrestlers who have left their respective companies, are not eligible to be entered in this tournament.

Sixty-four wrestlers from WWE and TNA were seeded by a selections committee based on three critical pro wrestling categories:  Booking, Star Power and Headline Potential.

Booking: How is the wrestler booked?  Do they win more than they lose?  Are they protected in losses or do they often lose clean?  What is the average length of the wrestlers’ match?  Is the given wrestler active on pay-per-views?

Star Power: What’s the wrestler’s prestige like?  Is his star shining bright and continuing to do so, or is it fading out?  Has this wrestler enjoyed one or more successful championship reigns?

Headline Potential: Is this wrestler a main eventer?  Does he have potential to be a perennial main eventer based on his booking?  What caliber of wrestler is he usually paired with?

The following wrestlers were crowned as top seeds during the selections process:

John Cena is the hate it or love it face of WWE and has been for years.  Currently in his peak, Cena is booked meticulously with almost all of his losses coming via dirty tactics.

Cena will be in a World Championship match at WrestleMania for the seventh time in eight appearances, with all eight being title matches.

The Miz is WWE's fastest rising star, with the company clearly positioning him to be the torch bearer of the future.  Miz is the current WWE Champion and looks to headline his first WrestleMania at WrestleMania XXVII in Atlanta.

Mr. Anderson, while he recently enjoyed a short run as the a TNA Heavyweight Champion, had a career year in TNA last year and continues to be positioned as one of TNA's top guys.

Anderson has been active in the TNA Heavyweight Championship as late, and an impending heel turn will likely be accompanied by his second heavyweight title reign.

Edge is the current World Champion and has been a staple in recent WrestleMania World Championship matches.

Edge is currently featured as the top guy on a diluted SmackDown brand, yet he continues to compete in stellar high profile matches as most recently illustrated with him and Rey Mysterio's standout performances at WWE Elimination Chamber.

All week, updated coverage of the online tournament will be provided following the results of each round culminating in the championship match up next Friday, March 18.

As part of the week-long coverage, upsets, trends, key matchups and more will be analyzed as the Internet crowns its 2011 King of the Internet Wrestling Community.

Round 1 is currently underway with Round 2 to begin on Monday.  Click here to vote and follow the Mark Madness tourney live!
