WWE: CM Punk Revels in Buffalo Bills Linebacker Shawne Merriman's Lack of Game

Shawne Merriman's career has seen more of an accelerated depreciation than a used Geo Prism, so this may be one of those stories where he benefits from his fame being so obscure.

Merriman, who now plays for the Buffalo Bills after a pro-bowl laden stint with the San Diego Chargers, was recently in Costa Rica during the same time that WWE Superstars and Divas inhabited the territory for a live event.  The former three time pro bowler apparently attempted to court one or more of the Divas but had about as much success getting to the WWE Divas as he's had getting to the quarterback in the past few seasons.  CM Punk, an enthusiastic observer of the entire train wreck ('train wreck' being either Merriman's pickup fail or yet another illustration of the former star linebacker's cumulative backslide), tweeted a live account of the rejection befitting of Steve Urkel's approval:

The two went on to engage in a war of words on their respective twitters (here's Punks and here's Merriman's).  To add more perspective to the entire feud, Punk would further break down the failed moment in hookup history in an e-mail to the Chicago Sun Times:

"All I did was observe him walking around poolside, back and fourth, around in circles. I had no clue who he was, just knew that this guy was obviously trying to get noticed. When that didn't work, he sent his publicist after the girls, which is the most lacking of testicles thing ever. That's how we found out who he was.

"When THAT didn't work I watched him run after them as they tried to leave. Dude clowned himself and all I did was report the facts and laugh about it. On the road, the WWE is a family. The divas are my sisters, and like any big brother, I don't want creeps around my little sisters."

The last time Merriman was in the headlines opposite a notable female, he was involved in an alleged domestic dispute with Tila Tequila.  Merriman has attended WWE events in the past and has even expressed interest in professional wrestling, which could be Merriman presciently considering a backup plan as his current downward spiral persists.

Merriman's previous feelers to WWE should be taken into consideration as there is always the possibility of this entire twitter feud being a work.  With the NFL preparing for a lockout in about  24 hours and Wrestlemania XXVII around the corner, the timing of it all is certainly peculiar.  Given Merriman's hard luck over the past year or so, however, any talks between WWE and Merriman would likely be in reaction to an otherwise real life story of romantic failure.
