WWE Wrestlemania XXVII: 15 Entertaining Storyline Ideas for the Rock

Alfred KonuwaJun 4, 2018

With WrestleMania zeroing in on the entire spectrum of sports and entertainment, the Rock has chosen the most important six-week window in pro wrestling in which to make his triumphant return.

The Rock is already front and center in a tension-inducing feud with John Cena sure to end in disappointment, but here are a few subsidiary ideas and storylines for the People's Champion to enjoy during his current stay with WWE.

1. The Rock Meets Santino (Again)

1 of 15

Santino Marella is one of the few, if not only, talents to have come close to matching the Rock's comedic timing and ability.

When the Rock inducted his father and grandfather in the Hall of Fame in 2008, the two had a brief exchange and the result was gold.

One well-thought-out backstage segment between the Rock and Santino Marella would be something to behold.

2. The Usos and the Rock - Family Ties

2 of 15

We all know of the Rock's Samoan ties and his emotional, albeit at times whiny, promo on Monday night reminded us of the long history his family has in the wrestling business.

The Usos could only dream of getting to stand anywhere near The Rock on camera at this point, but it they are related to the Rock, as Rikishi and Rock are cousins.

3. Rock and Austin in the Same Ring for the First Time in Eight Years

3 of 15

Austin will be the 128th wrestler to make his return to WWE in the last two months, and with the Rock back with the Fed (at least for now), think of the goosebumps that will be created if Rock and Austin were standing in the same ring on the 10-year anniversary of their own road to WrestleMania X-Seven.

4. Rock vs. McMahon

4 of 15

Vince McMahon is 0-4 at WrestleMania, but his strength of schedule should be taken into consideration, at least in terms of star power, when it comes to McMahon's Mania record.

The Rock and McMahon could easily use real life issues of the Rock 'turning his back' on WWE in favors of using notoriety that Vince McMahon himself had a major role in creating.

McMahon's WrestleMania career has been completely comprised of the chairman competing against WWE icons on the back end of their careers and Shane McMahon.

Why not throw the Rock in there to continue the streak?  One can only dream.

5. The Rock Meets Hornswoggle

5 of 15

Love Hornswoggle or hate him, you know the Emmy award-winning WWE creative team is brainstorming ways to fit in a neat little Hornswoggle/Rock segment at or before WrestleMania.

For what it's worth, the Rock would probably make it work.

6. Rock Pins Sheamus in Five Seconds or Less.

6 of 15

Because everybody else seems to be doing it.

7. The Rock Sings the People's Anthem to Kick off Wrestlemania XXVII

7 of 15

Wrestlemania XXVII will comprise of a predominantly male audience in an old school rasslin' territory.  Who really wants to see Justin Bieber do anything there?

Bieber is lucky that he's singing the star spangled banner, an anthem that is virtually un-booable unless it is unforgivably butchered.  Hell, Christina Aguilera didn't even get booed after her own hatchet-job rendition.

Why not just have the Rock sing his own special People's Anthem in a way to kick off the first-ever WrestleMania to be hosted by a living legend?

8. The Rock Featured as a Special Guest Referee for Cena/Miz

8 of 15

With the announcement that the Cole/Lawler match will have a special guest referee, it now seems unlikely that WWE will make the Rock a special guest ref for the Cena/Miz match, as was previously speculated, to avoid giving the Georgia Dome special guest ref fatigue.

However, with Cena and Rock going back and forth leading up to Mania, the Rock standing in the ring as a special guest referee would certainly add unquestionable tension and intrigue to a main event that we've seen before.

9. The People's Camera

9 of 15

Shawn Michaels had the KLIQ Cam, why not give Rock one segment with the People's Camera to hype the Atlanta crowd in-between matches?

10. The Rock Does Color Commentary During Wrestlemania XXVII

10 of 15

Cole and Lawler are going to be in a match, and if Jim Ross' incessant pleas to return to his beloved headsets are not met, the Rock would be a formidable replacement on color commentary if not for a match or two.

11. The Rock and Cena in a Public Debate

11 of 15

The go-home show for RAW is almost guaranteed to see the Rock standing in the ring with John Cena, and since the two won't be in a WrestleMania match despite a great build, a public debate could be a satisfactory substitute before WWE delivers the underwhelming Miz/Cena match.

12. The Rock and the Miz in a Public Debate

12 of 15

Miz definitely has some chops on the mic, and a debate between Miz and Rock, although lacking a bit in cumulative star power, could be just as interesting as a similar showdown between the Rock and Cena.

13. the Rock Drops the People's Elbow On...Somebody

13 of 15

It's not much of a storyline, but if the Rock doesn't drop a People's Elbow on somebody, WWE would have shown full dedication to the art of the tease.

14. An Evening with the Rock II

14 of 15

Heel Rock's concert in Sacramento a few years back was quite entertaining.

John Cena answered the Rock with a rap, so Rock should just keep it on wax and diss John Cena with a creative musical number.

15. The Rock Inducts Shawn Michaels Into the Hall of Fame

15 of 15

If all else fails, the Rock could induct his good buddy Shawn Michaels into the WWE Hall of Fame.

No good?
