MLB Daily Market Wrap Up: Two Days Left

Dan FabrizioSep 27, 2008

Moving Today's Market

Two days left. Two games for teams to close out the regular season, and some teams are still fighting for playoff spots. The Phillies have a two-game lead over the Mets in the NL East. A Philadelphia win or a Mets loss seals the division for the Phillies. The Mets are also one game back of the Brewers for the NL Wild Card, due to the Brewers five-game win streak. The Mets will send staff ace Johan Santana to the mound on three-days rest in New York against the Marlins and Ricky Nolasco. The Mets are receiving 58% of moneyline bets, but the line has moved in the opposite direction. After opening at Pinnacle as -201 favorites, the line currently sits at New York -178. There looks to be some money behind Florida. The Brewers will send Ben Sheets to the mound against a Cubs' starting lineup that won't look like the one they'll use in the playoffs. Sheets is coming back from an elbow injury, and may not be able to go deep into the game. Watch for original scheduled starter Dave Bush to pitch in long relief if that's the case.

In the AL, the Twins have a half-game lead over the White Sox in the AL Central. Glen Perkins and the Twins play host to Gil Meche and the Royals, as they try to stay ahead of Chicago. Minnesota is receiving 77% of the moneyline bets, but the line movement has triggered multiple Smart Money plays on Kansas City. After opening as -146 favorites at Pinnacle, the Twins are currently -137 favorites despite the strong public backing. The White Sox look to keep pace with Minnesota as they send Javier Vazquez to the mound on three-days rest against Cleveland. The Indians hitters are probably licking their chops after viewing Vazquez's career record on three-days rest (0-3 , 6.32 ERA, 1.66 WHIP in three career starts.) The White Sox are receiving 59% of the public's moneyline backing, but have moved from -201 favorites to -184 favorites at Pinnacle.
