Juan Martin Del Potro Through to Quarterfinals in Delray Beach International
Juan Martin Del Potro is through to another quarterfinal, as his comeback from a long-term injury continues.
The Argentinean—who won the 2009 US Open—dominated Russia's Teymuraz Gabashvili 6-1, 6-1 in just 69 minutes on Thursday to reach the semifinals at the Tennis-Scores.aspx#inscore_ifheight_xdc_1337">Delray Beach International Tennis Championships.
Del Potro recorded just four aces, but won points on 22 of 24 first-serves to dominate his opponent.
Del Potro will face serve specialist Kevin Anderson from South Africa in today's quarterfinals.
The other final eight matchups include Alejandro Falla against second-seeded Mardy Fish, American Ryan Sweeting—who upset Sam Querrey—against Japan's Kei Nishikori, and Janko Tipsarevic against Ivan Dodig.
Del Potro jumped 132 spots in the rankings last week from 298th to 166th after reaching the semifinals at Memphis last week.
A win at Delray Beach would garner Del Potro another 250 points, which could send him in to the Top 100.
