THE top ten over-rated People,teams,and figures in all of sports

Hello there sports fans! I CJ Vick have spent the last couple weeks rating the top athletes in various disciplines. I believe that while it is paramount to keep readers up on the best I also think its important to point out the over rated. I believe as others do that the path to overateddom is a confluence of the media hype machine, past and team success, good looks, and other such things that annoy us all to no end. I decided to look at some of the famous sporting faces that grace our magazines and television sets every single day. After a long screening process I came up with the ten most overhyped figures that the world of sports has to offer. This list could be cracked by a number of factors such as the ones listed above. Each athlete has a public persona that is dominant within their sports. They get all the coke commercials and in most cases rake in extravagant dough at the box office. Lets be clear sports fans, over the next couple paragraphs you may see a long time hero of yours. My advice for you should that happen is to get over it. They are over rated and their card is being pulled. Feel free to comment as always sports fans but understand….these people get way to much credit from media and fans.

  10. Oscar Del Hoya  Sport: Boxing     Age 35.

Boxing “Golden Boy” is no longer a boy and is for sure not Golden. Since his unified welterweight showdown with Felix “tito”  Trinidad. Oscar has had 9 years worth of chances to atone for his loss and elevate himself to being a great fighter. Well it never happened and he has become a great “event” but a lackluster fighter. He is an Olympic champion with George Clooney looks and a clean all American image so Oscar will sell until the end of time but his time as a pound for pound fighter has come and gone. Now the time has come for someone to call it out,might as well be me (=

 9. Sergio Garcia Sport: Golf    Age: 28

The most hated man on the PGA tour checks in at number nine. I don’t not know if it is  his cry baby press conferences or his annoying antics when it comes to Tiger,but, he has found a way to get under everyone’s skin since he joined the tour in 1999. Everytime I turn on a golf show they talk about his “tremendous talent” and his “amazing drives coupled with a excellent short game”. That notion is laughable, all this guy has done is not win a major since he came on tour is 1999. With all of his taunting and banter this man has not won the big one. He has finished 4^th,3^rd, and second three times. That to me does not warrant million dollar endorsement deals and never ending praise from media members and company. I know some people out there will point out that he won TPC at sawgrass “Major”. Lets be real that is often called the “5^th” major. It’s the diet coke of major championships….all of these factors make Sergio a prime pick for this list.

8.David Beckham  Sport: Soccer  Age:33

Ladies and gentleman may I present the 250 million dollar man. I don’t know what is funnier about this entire situation, the fact that they lied about how much money he was making,or,that the team and Beckham have woefully underperformed since David came through the doors 2 years ago. They did not make the playoffs last year and they seem well on their way to the same finish this year. The hype that followed his arrivial died down in about 3 weeks. He in the last two years in the worst soccer league in the world has a combined for 6 goals and 9 asst. Landon Donavan that makes about 150 million dollars less have scored 19 goals and 7 asst THIS YEAR. So not only is he not the best player in a league where he is the biggest name, he is not even the best player on his team. He is great in people magazine but when it comes to the field he is fast becoming a punch line.

7.Danica Patrick Sport : Indy series racing

It makes me sad to write this Girl Scout in because she is very HOT. However Lets call it what it is. She has roughly raced in about 65 races since she broke on to the American scene in 2005. In all of those races she has won ONE race and that race was part of the Japan 300 series. The point she is one the richest and most popular women in sports. I check into it and she makes much more money the a venus willams or a lisa Leslie. She has never won the points race, she has never put together any dominant stretches in her career thus far, and her frequent track temper tantrums only add to the fact that this very attractive athlete is getting more credit and money they her resume warrants. Sorry Danica but I have to keep it real for my readers. She has won rookie of the year but since then her only awards in terms of racing have been “most popular driver” and that right there cements my point folks.

6. Kimbo Slice Sport:MMA  Age:34

The former pornography bodyguard is fast becoming one of the most famous men in America. He has a network deal with CBS a first in his sport and it is said he is making a million plus  a fight. He is the most scary man I have ever been within ten feet of but….BUT…….he has not fought any established champions in his sport,he has not proven himself against a fighter that can fight on the mat, He is a boxer fighting in MMA. Kimbo slice has not payed the dues or fought the men to be the face of his sport. It is not fair to the real men of UFC who have been doing this for years to have some guy who is a youtube sensation get their money and network contracts. I hate to say it because he is fun to watch…….this man is not as good as advertised and as soon as he gets in the ring with a young hungry champion he will be exposed for the fraud that he is

5.Michelle Wie  Sport: Golf   Age: 18

Yet again we have someone who I hear is a great person and interview. However thanks to her father and the American media this girl was given everything before she won anything. She was playing in Men’s tournements and getting huge multi million dollar deals with shoe companies. Now 4 years later here we are . She is not even in the top twenty on the WOMENS tour and has to go to the Q school just to get her tour card. I feel bad for her but she is not even close to the best female golfer on the planet but if you add up her exemptions and endorsement deals she is by far the most well paid. It is sad but is makes her a top 5 over rated athlete. She needs to concentrate on the LPGA and being the best she can be…not the female Tiger Woods which is how EVERYONE tried to tout her

4.Ray Lewis Sport: Football  Age:33

The former most dangerous man in football is just that. He does not scare offensive schemers anymore and his pre game antics are now the best part of his game. He has lost his quickness and is in decline. He is the 5th best player on HIS defense. Since 2004 he has just 9 sacks total(the much more unathletic Teddy Bruschi of the New England PATS has the same number of sacks at the same position). He is in under amour commercials. He is marketed as a very feared man in this league. He has failed to net more then 100 solo tackles in 2 years running now and it is clear that he has fallen off. I respect him as a man but right now he isn’t even a top 20 linebacker. I think he needs to start thinking about which seat he wants on the ESPN “Primetime” set.

3. Phil Mickelson Sport:Golf Age:38

Phil has not been the same since he blew the US Open two years ago. All I hear about is how is the man to take down tiger, he is the man to Curtail Tigers grip on the golf world. Well it has not exactly gone to script has it. This man has never really lived up to the hype of being the second best golfer of this generation. He has failed to live up to those expectations because of in inability to deal with pressure. On the back 9 Phil has rarely put his foot on his opponents throat and made them say uncle. He has won majors however that in terms of the expectations that should go with out saying. He has not stared down tiger for one year and beat him the way Nadal beat up on Roger this year. It has not happened and its not going to happen. Phil is one of the richest men in sports and that’s nice but WHY???? He is not even the 5th  best golfer on the planet and its not like the guy with his gut and fat face is a matinee idol. Give me break this guy should not be rakin in 45 million a year in endorsements and purses.

2.Derek Jeter  Sport: baseball Age:34

The most overated baseball player of all-time check in at number 2. I liken him to Terry Bradsaw who played on 4 Steeler Championship teams but was not a very prolific passer. He was more the care taker of the office. Derek is the face of baseball. He is the guy in the commercials with Tiger Woods and company. He is a modern day Yankee hero and I love the attitude he brings to the game but again we have to keep it real….he has a combined 23 homers in the last two years. In his last 2 playoff appearances(two five-game series) he has a total of 2 RBI’s. Last year in the playoffs he hit 176 with one RBI. The funny thing is people KILL A-rod for vanishing in the post season but what in the world do you call Derek Jeters performance…..OH I forgot…NYC fans protect Derek because he is their hero. Well I have news you…your hero has gotten old and he can't hide behind his name forever. The future of the Yankees is A-Rod and unless he resurrects the Yankees ball club by himself  in 2009 its over.. He has gone from being the best shortstop in baseball to the second best short stop on his team. Do the math fans we are entering the home stretch for Mr. Derek Jeter

1.NEW YORK YANKEES   Sport:Baseball  AGE:FOREVER

This team gets so much attention win or lose. Yes they are the mighty Yankees with all of the rings and hall of famers and the endless glory BUT…..what have you done for me as of late? You have not won a title in almost a decade…..you have not made it out of the first round in 5 plus years……you have a 220 million dollar payroll while small market teams like the Rays dance circles around you….you guys as a team make more money then entire leagues and you can even make the FIRST round of the playoffs…..yes they are great for sports but they have not done anything on the field in recent years to justify their payroll, the media attention, or the baseball writers that year after year pick these clowns to win the division and win the world series. It also does not help having a diva for a franchise player or owner that wants so much to be like his dad but in reality sounds even more clueless then his pops. With all the heat that Joe T caught last fall he has the LA dodgers in full effect right now while the sorry,overpaid,overhyped, disaster of a baseball team continues to market themselves as "sports best franchise".. right.....  the Bronx bombers have become the bronx welcome mats, well at least their young pitching came through...haha (=

Wow this is sure to draw some ire but get over it. This is the truth there are great athletes out there who deserve much more then they are getting and these people have a lot to do with it. They are the product of sportscenter and trading cards. Some of these people are hall of famers but they are not playing at a hall of fame level right now and it is time it got called out. Anyone and everyone can weigh in but understand my friends……these ten sports beings are not worth the price of admission
