Big Show: WWE's Monster Face Needs To Lose Against Ezekiel Jackson

Luis HerreraFeb 22, 2011

Contrary to many IWC writers, I had no problem with Big Show becoming a face last year. The guy is funny, has charisma and has had such a good career that most fans just want to cheer for him.

Since his return to WWE in early 2008, Paul Wright had had a very nice run as a heel, with a short face period after Wrestlemania XXIV.

He was involved in feuds with The Undertaker and John Cena, then he teamed with Chris Jericho for a long (and great) reign as WWE Unified Tag Team Champions and repeated the formula with The Miz.

After losing the tag team title against The Hart Dynasty, it was time for a change for Big Show. He was drafted to SmackDown and turned face upon his arrival, knocking out Chris Jericho and Edge before starting a feud with Jack Swagger.

At first, it was nice to have a "new sheriff in town". He seemed like a good choice to put Swagger over while giving heels a hard time.

The problem is that he never put Swagger over.

Shortly after that, he singlehandedly destroyed the Straight Edge Society. Then he was booked to seem impossible to stop, even by three or four men.

The situation was apparently going to change when he started a program with Wade Barrett. The Englishmen looked good in their first match until the rest of The Corre appeared.

Since then, every time they are in the ring, Show easily takes care of everybody until Ezekiel Jackson takes him down, always attacking from his back or by surprise. There is no way to see anybody facing him one-on-one and not looking weak.

Due to his size, Big Show was an obvious monster heel, as many others have been before. Yes, sometimes it took many men to beat him, but top faces were able to face him in singles competition. For example, Edge did it a few weeks before Wrestlemania XXVI with ONE spear.

But now Wright is a top face, which means that in addition to his size, he gets Superman powers, making him invincible. He is now a monster face.

Do you remember the night Dolph Ziggler became No, 1 Contender? It was in a Fatal-4-Way in which Big Show kicked out three straight times after receiving Ziggler, Drew McIntyre and Cody Rhodes’ finishers.

This came to a ridiculous level in the Elimination Chamber, when the three last World Heavyweight Champions (plus Drew) had to combine to finally get rid of him.

Big Show's booking is not only making heels look like weak cowards. Now it's making the entire SmackDown roster look weak.

This has to stop.

Yes, Big Show is a giant and is realistic to see him trashing the opposition, but from time to time, his rivals should find a way to beat him.

It seems clear Big Show is going to have a match with Ezekiel Jackson soon, probably in Wrestlemania XXVII. The best thing WWE could do is let Jackson win clean.
