Sheamus: From Champ To Chump; Why?

Charlie GFeb 20, 2011

Sheamus debuted in WWE on the ECW brand. He destroyed everyone in his path. He had a short feud with Goldust and then another short feud with Shelton Benjamin.

His feud with Benjamin ended prematurely, as Sheamus was called up to RAW.

In his RAW debut, he defeated Jamie Noble, and kept defeating Noble until he eventually forced him into retirement.

The first Pay-Per-View event Sheamus competed in was Survivor Series. He took part in the classical five-on-five tag team elimination match. He was chosen by The Miz to help defeat Team Morrison.

Sheamus eliminated fellow Irishman Finlay and even won the match after getting a pin fall on John Morrison. The following night on RAW, Sheamus participated in a RAW "break-through" battle royal. The battle royal featured superstars who had never won a world championship.

Sheamus won the "break-through" battle royal and became the number one contender to John Cena's WWE championship. The contract signing took place right after the battle royal, and we fans witnessed Sheamus slam Cena through a table. The match was announced, by Jesse Ventura, to be a Tables match!

On Dec. 13, at TLC Pay-Per-View, Sheamus overcame the odds and put John Cena through a table, thus becoming the new WWE champion. The following night on RAW, Sheamus was awarded the "Breakout Superstar of the Year" Slammy Award. Later that night, he retained his championship by defeating Cena by disqualification.

Then at the Royal Rumble Pay-Per-View, Sheamus defeated Randy Orton by disqualification to retain the WWE championship. The following month was the Elimination Chamber event, where Sheamus lost his WWE championship due to Triple H.

One week after Elimination Chamber, Sheamus attacked Triple H for costing him his title. The attack by Sheamus led to a match between the two at Wrestlemania, which Sheamus lost.

Sheamus avenged his Wrestlemania loss after he defeated Triple H in a street fight at Extreme Rules.

Sheamus regained his WWE championship belt on June 20, the date of WWE Fatal Four Way. Sheamus won the match after interference by The Nexus.

Sheamus successfully retained the WWE championship against Cena in a steel cage match at the Money in the Bank Pay-Per-View event.

At Night of Champions, Sheamus lost his championship in a Six-Pack Challenge match. The match was won by Randy Orton.

On November 29, Sheamus won the King of the Ring crown after defeating Kofi Kingston and John Morrison.

Since Sheamus won the King of the Ring he hasn't had a big break through like past Kings have had. He has been slowly fading away from the main event scene and losing credibility.

King Sheamus has been on the wrong side of a push. Instead of going up, he seems to be going down. My question is why?

I have found the answer.

One reason for WWE curtailing the push of Sheamus in recent weeks is because Kevin Dunn, the organization's Executive Vice President of Television Production, is not a fan of his. It's been noted over the years that behind Vince McMahon, Dunn has the biggest say in the company's creative direction.

I am a fan of Sheamus and want him to succeed. With the WWE Draft coming after Wrestlemania, it might be a smart move for Sheamus to make the move over to the blue brand. There he can get the spotlight he deserves and possibly a championship around his waist.

I believe Sheamus will lose the Elimination Chamber match this Sunday. His chances are as good as R-Truth's. But then what is next for "The Celtic Warrior?"

Wrestlemania is coming up, and word is that Triple H will face The Undertaker at "The Grandest Stage of Them All." Where does that leave Sheamus? Money in the Bank match?

I think the safest thing for Sheamus will be that move to Friday nights. If he doesn't go to Smackdown! he will just get mixed in with the RAW roster. So what is next for King Sheamus?
