Tiger Woods Spit at the Dubai Desert Classic: Who Cares?
February 14, 2011
Tiger Woods spit on the 12th green at the Dubai Desert Classic‒let’s suspend him from all tours for a period of six months.
Heck, let’s make him golf’s version of Pete Rose and ban him from the game forever.
But before we do all that, we better get Horatio Caine over to Dubai to take a sample from the 12th green and send it over to forensics to see if Woods did indeed spit on the 12th green or if it was all a setup by the European Tour and European tabloid media, which by the way fully encompasses the “mainstream” media on the other side of the pond.
Folks, the guy spit on the green.
The fact that we are even discussing this issue is ridiculous in its own right.
The fact that he was fined, and every newspaper in Europe was all over the Spitgate incident is downright comical.
Guys spit all the time.
Steve Marino was spitting all over the place on Sunday at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.
Last week at the Waste Management Phoenix Open, cameras caught Jason Dufner spitting—only he didn’t get it all out and was more or less drooling on national television.
Sergio Garcia was also seen on camera spitting during the final round of the Dubai Desert Classic on Sunday, yet Garcia’s spitting antics were conveniently overlooked.
Is Woods’ spitting disgusting to watch‒yes. Whether he has a bad case of allergies or not, no one wants to watch a guy spit all over the golf course.
Is Woods’ spitting worth the time it takes to hand down a fine and the ink it takes for every newspaper in Europe to make something out of nothing‒no.
Heck, it’s not even worth my time to write an article ridiculing the time the European Tour and European media have already wasted on the Dubai Desert Classic spitting incident.
The guy spit on the 12th green.
Disgusting?
Yes.
Hundreds of other golfers do it every day on every major tour.
Let’s stop the absurdity and not spend another second on one guy spitting on the 12th hole of a golf tournament in Dubai.
There are thousands of other more important issues going on in the world. Heck, there are thousands of other more important issues going on in the golf world alone.
