David Price Notches Impressive Debut for Tampa Bay

Devon RogersSep 23, 2008

If it wasn't for an outstanding outing by another rookie producer, the Rays would have lost last night, not won.

David Price threw a gem yesterday at a time when Tampa Bay had a tough time getting offense. Price has been lights out in his short stint with the Rays, and he just looks like a pure natural. If he is not careful, he might land himself a spot in the rotation come playoff time.

I love it when Price is on the mound. When he is on the hill, you know he won't give up many runs, which leaves it to the offense to produce. Of course it always helps when the other manager makes a bonehead decision and takes out his pitcher too early.

If anything, David Price has earned himself a spot in the rotation come next year.

Tampa got its offense rolling soon after Orioles starter Brian Bass was removed, and then they picked up the win.

Price needs to be in the rotation at least all of next year, hopefully through October. It may not be a bad thing to have him as the bullpen force throughout the playoffs. I don't know. That is why it is not up to me to make those decisions.

Good luck, Joe!

I heard David Price being compared to what K-Rod was to the Angels during their playoff run in 2002. If he can be half as good, the Rays could go a long way.

Tampa Bay rotation next year w/ Price:

1. Scott Kazmir

2. James Shields

3. David Price

4. Matt Garza

5. Andy Sonnanstine

Edwin Jackson gets the boot next year because he was out performed by Sonny this year. He may take over Jason Hammel's role in the 'pen next season.
