Sir Alex Ferguson Is Due To Spend Some Money This Summer After a Quiet January

Mike GoncalvesFeb 13, 2011

Sir Alex Ferguson did not enforce his team during the January transfer market this year. With his team getting older, he is in need to bring in some new reinforcements to Old Trafford this summer.

Gary Neville has already made it public that he is going to retire. Manchester United now has Rafael and John O'Shea to cover the right back side of the Red Devils defense.

Another key piece to the Sir Alex Ferguson's squad is Edwin Van Der Sar. He has also announced that he will be putting an end to his career this summer.

Both Neville and Van Der Sar have had very successful careers at the club and international level, and even just their experience on the team will be missed. It is also unknown if Paul Scholes will continue to play or if he will be calling it quits also.

When asked about the transfer market, Sir Alex had this to say: "Billionaire owners have introduced a new world that is turning football on its head. For our part, we cannot afford to sit in an ivory tower. We have to face the challenge."

"Although I let the transfer window shut without signing a new player, that is because we did our homework some time ago and didn't have to rush into any emergency buying."

Now we are left to see who Sir Alex will be going after in the transfer market. Rumors have surfaced that Gareth Bale is on top of Ferguson's list. Gareth Bale would clearly be a very good edition to Manchester United's left side.

David De Gea, 20-year-old Atletico Madrid goalkeeper, has also been linked with an Old Trafford move. Porto's Hulk, Aston Villa's Ashley Young and Liverpool’s Pepe Reina have also been linked with Manchester United.

Who would Manchester United fans like to see at Old Trafford next season? We can at least be assured that Sir Alex Ferguson will be sure to do his homework and only bring the best and top notch players to Old Trafford.
