Detroit Lions: I Got a Question for You

Seattle Lion FanFeb 13, 2011

I've been seeing replays of the excellent commercial that was put out by Chrysler that played in the third quarter of the Super Bowl.  It's revised version, with a different voice than Eminem, is getting a lot of play here in Seattle.

I give a lot of credit to Chrysler for telling the the rest of the country that "this is what we do."  Sent chills down my spine and I have never been prouder to be from Detroit every time I see the ad.

The symmetry between the City of Detroit and it's football team, the Lions, began to strike a nerve within me.

While Detroit has been rocked with unemployment and it's future uncertain and magnified by the financial crisis in 2008, the Lions have been rocked with bad management making poor choices of talent both in the player and coaching areas.

Truly both have been to "hell and back", wouldn't you say?

The commercials displays Detroit in it's true form: gritty, but determined.

There is no sugarcoating it: The Lions past has been so bad that no one, outside Detroit, thinks they have a chance.

As Detroit slowly pulls it self out of the depths of despair with pride and determination that just won't quit, it's time the Lions give Detroit something to be proud of.

Martin Mayhew and Jim Schwartz are putting this team together in the right fashion: Not with quick fixes, but with a determined but steady pace to seek the correct pieces that will get this team to contend.

Will there be playoffs this season? If I knew that, I'd be placing some serious bets in Las Vegas. But I do know that they will get there with the same pride and determination as the City of Detroit is usinb to pull out of their current situation.

As the ad says, Detroit isn't New York City, the Windy City and certainly not anybody's Emerald City; these Lions aren't the Jets, the Bears or Patriots.

These are the Lions—a team that will beat you with defense and a gritty offense.

This is what they do.
