Missing the Peak of the Chicago White Sox Season
Six games to go. No more off days. Three days in the dreaded "Rollerdome," as Ditka would put it. It must be the best time of the year to be absorbing Chicago sports media.
Oh, but who am I kidding? I'm guessing there's mostly talk about the Cubs and what the Big Z will do next. Or maybe day two or three of Bears meltdown talk.
Well, here in Michigan, I get nothing...nada...bupkiss! I live in western Michigan, tantalizingly close to being able to hear AM 670 in my car or in the garage. West Michigan sports radio is a joke—the only "sports" station is headlined by Bill "Huge" Simonson, (yes, that Bill Simonson—the one who was beaten up at the Cell and run out of town).

So, there's not much chatter for me—and not much hype either. Most of my friends have ditched the Tigers and are almost done with the Lions for the season already, so there's not must banter there. They're waiting now for the Red Wings!
But, I'll be watching the best I can. I don't think the "superstation" is carrying any of the games this week and I'm too cheap to have paid for extra service, so I'll watch the dots on Sportsline.com or the scroll on ESPN News to see what happens. At least I still won't have to listen to Hawk.
And, I have registered for my ALDS and ALCS tickets, so I'm hopeful for this week. I even have the weekend of Oct. 3-4 free! I made it to Game Two of the ALCS in 2005 (the AJ non-strikeout game), but that was it for me that year and I have a hard time remembering many of the other games of that postseason. See, I got married on October 22nd of 2005—Game One of the World Series.
I saw a good portion of Game One (more than I probably should have), none of Game Two (was on a plane), all of Game Three (from a beach setting too!) and none of Game Four (on the road to Hana on Maui). When we got back to civilization, my cell phone started buzzing like crazy.
So, I'm hoping to see more this time around. I was really hoping for just one more championship in my lifetime, let alone just three years later.
I'll write more about that later and also my distant tie to Matt Thornton. I've already lost my posting once tonight and need to save up my sleep for this series.
