2011 NFL Quarterback Carousel: Where Will Vince Young and Company Land?

Justin PelletierFeb 5, 2011

For every football fan not in Green Bay or Pittsburgh the offseason has already begun. That means it’s time to take a look at possible personal moves (if there isn’t a prolonged lockout). What better place to start than with five (likely) available quarterbacks.  There are some interesting signal callers and plenty of teams in need.

1. Vince Young: Possible Suitors49ers, Cardinals, Dolphins

Even with Jeff Fisher’s dismissal, the much maligned Young is still likely on his way out of the Music City. Leadership and personal issues aside, there’s no denying the former No. 3 overall pick’s talent.

Likely Destination: San Francisco—I’d have loved to see a VY-Singletary marriage, simply for the fireworks that it would produce, but SF is also a young squad with upside where Young can grow into a leader.

2. Donovan McNabb: Possible SuitorsVikings, Cardinals, 49ers

Donny Mac has probably seen his best days pass him by and it seems unlikely that he has enough left to lead a team to the promise land. Despite that, there will probably some team desperate enough to take a flyer.

Likely Destination: Arizona—When you’re talking about desperate teams, the Cards are usually the first to pop up. McNabb’s offseason home is in the Valley of the Sun so maybe they can help each other.

3. Kevin Kolb: Possible SuitorsTitans, Vikings, 49ers

Kolb won’t see the field in Philly as long as Mike Vick is in town. Kolb has made it clear that if that’s the case he wants out of the City of Brotherly Love. Philly will have to oblige and finding a suitor won’t be too difficult.

Likely Destination: Minnesota—Even though Kolb isn’t ready to lead a team to the championship, he’s twice the option of Tavaris Jackson.

4. Carson Palmer: Possible SuitorsRedskins, Vikings, Titans

Cincy has said it would like to keep Palmer but, unbelievably, the quarterback who just threw 20 picks on a four-win team says he wants out. Marvin Lewis would be wise to honor his request.

Likely Destination: Washington—Who else but Daniel Snyder would trade for Palmer at this point in his career?

5. Matt Hasselback: Possible SuitorsTitans, Dolphins, Cardinals

As an unrestricted free agent, Hasselback is the only one of the five who will definitely be available this offseason. He’s no longer an upper echelon signal caller (or even in the top half) but he’d certainly be an upgrade for some teams in need.

Likely Destination: Miami—Believe it or not, the Dolphins won the AFC East only three years ago. Chad Henne is clearly not the man to lead them back. Hasselback is a nice stop gap measure while they look for their next QB.

If these five quarterbacks move they could transform underachieving teams into contenders, or lead also-rans into respectability. It may not be as good as cheering for your team in the Big Game but for the rest of us, it’s all we got.
