2011 NFL Draft Trade Rumors: 7 Teams Looking to Trade in the First Round

Brian ShannonApr 28, 2011

The NFL draft is quickly approaching—just five hours from now—and many teams are looking to move around in the first round.

The lockout has added to the uncertainty of how the first round will play as and the Panthers have not even made it known who they are taking with the first pick in the draft.

There are numerous teams involved in trade rumors right now so lets take a look at seven teams who are likely looking to move around in tonight's first round.

1. Arizona Cardinals

The Cardinals would like to move off of the fifth pick—assuming Von Miller will be gone—by the time that they are on the clock.

Arizona should have some suitors for their pick with numerous players with potential elite talent remaining on the board such as Patrick Peterson and Julio Jones.

The Cardinals could be the first domino to fall in terms of draft night trades and their pick should have a big say in determining how the rest of the first round plays out.

2. Houston Texans

The Texans could really use some secondary help and Patrick Peterson is hands down the top corner in this draft,  so clearly Houston would love to have him.

That's where the Cardinals and their fifth overall pick come in. Houston and Arizona could be looking to swing a deal that would give the Cardinals a lot more ammo and the Texans the potential lockdown corner they are looking for.

Houston could make a huge splash in this draft by landing Peterson and they will definitely be one of the most intriguing teams to watch in the first round.

3. Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys would like to add an offensive lineman, particularly an offensive tackle, and there should plenty of good ones left in the middle part of the first round. Jerry Jones and Co. may look to trade back and pick up the player they want.

Dallas is also reportedly interested in some of the top defensive ends available and, luckily for them, they are looking at the top two positions available in this draft.

Trading down could make a lot of sense but you never know what Jones will decide to do with his draft picks. One thing I can assure you of is the fact that they will not draft a receiver in the first round.

Although, if Matt Millen was in Jones' ear...nah, they're going with offensive line or defensive end so trading down could make a lot of sense.

4. Washington Redskins

The Redskins are picking right after the Cowboys and they may want to trade down as well from the No. 10 pick.

Washington has plenty of needs in this year's draft, so acquiring more picks would be a smart move but it will all depend on who they want to go after. I would not be totally shocked to see them take Locker at No. 10 and if they try to trade down and still get him, he may be gone to the Vikings by that time.

If Locker is not their pick then they will likely take Robert Quinn of UNC or trade down.

The Redskins have plenty of options and they need to make their first round selection count this season.

5. New England Patriots

The Patriots have the most ammo of any team in this draft with six picks in the first three rounds, so we could see them trading up or trading back with those picks.

I could see them potentially moving to the Cowboys or Redskins picks and picking up Cal defensive end Cameron Jordan or UNC outside linebacker/defensive end Robert Quinn.

The Patriots love to wheel and deal on draft day, and I wouldn't expect anything different this time around.

6. Atlanta Falcons

Todd McShay of ESPN believes the Falcons will be a team to keep in the back of your mind watching the first round as they make a major move into the top 5 to go after Alabama receiver Julio Jones.

The Falcons would likely have to part with the majority of their draft picks to make this a reality but they would love to give quarterback Matt Ryan another big time weapon on offense.

Atlanta doesn't have a lot of needs in this year's draft so they could potentially trade most of their picks to the Cardinals at No. 5 to create a tough tandem of Jones and Roddy White.

That would be scary when you consider Tony G is still playing at a very high level and Michael Turner still has plenty left in the tank.

This may be a long shot scenario but still one to look out for.

7. Oakland Raiders

The Raiders first pick is not until the second round and that comes at No. 48, so there has been speculation that Al Davis and Co. would like to move back into the first round.

Oakland could use a corner, especially if Nnamdi Asomugha leaves in free agency, and that could be the main motivation for the Raiders to move back into the first round.

Oakland also needs more help on the offensive line but they should just stay put at No. 48 if that's what they are looking for first and foremost because there will be plenty of good o-lineman available when they are finally on the clock.

You never know what Davis is thinking so the Raiders should be an interesting team to watch as usual.
