2011 NFL Trade Rumors: Will Chad Ochocinco Have an NFL Home Next Season?
Chad Ochocinco, soon to be Chad Johnson again, is making his presence known at the Super Bowl.
One of those reasons obviously is self-serving to keep his name in the press, but he also might be trying to market himself to another team in hopes that once there is a new collective bargaining agreement, there will be several suitors for his services in a possible trade deal.
Ochocinco and Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis are not getting along these days, so let's take a look at where Ochocinco may end up, assuming he has a home in the NFL in 2011.
At age 33, Ochocinco is getting past his prime, and as Terrell Owens showed, you wear out your welcome a lot quicker after age 30. Owens still got work through this last season, but he hasn't stayed anywhere for very long.
Cincinnati Bengals
1 of 10
Marvin Lewis is back in Cincinnati, and Ochocinco still is under contract with the Bengals.
But does Ocho have a home here?
No.
The team was doing fine with the young receivers at the end of the season, and there are going to be a lot of changes on the team after last year's dismal performance. Ochocinco is part of the past, and the Bengals are going to be looking to move forward.
St. Louis Rams
2 of 10
St. Louis is a young team rebuilding, and the Rams' No. 1 priority this offseason is to get a quality downfield threat for Sam Bradford to throw to.
While they can get a rookie through the draft, it is possible they also could engineer a trade for Ochocinco to give them a veteran presence with the receiving unit.
Kansas City Chiefs
3 of 10
The Chiefs and Matt Cassel have Dwayne Bowe to throw to downfield, and that's about it.
Ochocinco would make sense here.
Cleveland Browns
4 of 10
This is a long shot, but not outside the realm of possibility.
The Browns need wide receivers, and depending on the deal, it could happen. These two teams typically don't trade with each other, but if the Bengals want to get rid of him bad enough and all the other deals fall apart, they may see what their in-state rivals are willing to deal.
Tennessee Titans
5 of 10
If the Titans were willing to claim Randy Moss off waivers last year, they could be willing to deal for Ochocinco.
There's going to be a whole new look to the Titans coaching staff next year, and it could end up being a perfect fit for Ochocinco.
Arizona Cardinals
6 of 10
The Cardinals are in massive rebuilding mode at the moment, but getting another wide receiver would be a good trade for the Cardinals because they need to focus on their lines and other positions in the draft.
Seattle Seahawks
7 of 10
The Seahawks went into the playoffs with Ben Obomanu and Mike Williams as their starting wide receivers.
Golden Tate still is a work in progress, so that means there is plenty of room for Ochocinco to make an impact, even if Brandon Stokley stays on the roster.
San Francisco 49ers
8 of 10
The 49ers also are in a rebuild, so anything is possible.
Ochocinco and Michael Crabtree would make great dual threats for whoever ends up as quarterback of that team.
Miami Dolphins
9 of 10
Brandon Marshall cracked 1,000 yards on the season, but only barely. Plus, like a few other teams on this list, he's the only credible downfield threat the Dolphins have.
If nothing else, Ochocinco spreads the defense out, and you can't overestimate just how much that can open up your offense.
New England Patriots
10 of 10
There has been talk about sending Ochocinco to the Patriots, and Bill Belichick was asked about that at last week's Pro Bowl.
Belichick understandably said he couldn't comment about players under contract, but the story is out there.
So the question is, how will Marvin Lewis' comment that Belichick is "smarter than that" pan out over the next few months?
If Belichick can rehab Randy Moss for some quality years in New England, Ochocinco will be easy to tutor.
