Philadelphia Eagles: 10 Possible Destinations for QB Kevin Kolb
Earlier today, any QB controversy in the Philadelphia Eagles organization was put to rest when it was reported the Eagles will put the franchise tag on Michael Vick. This keeps him an Eagle for the 2011 season. Since Kevin Kolb demanded a trade if he wasn't going to be the starter, it now looks certain that this will happen.
Michael Vick has fit perfectly with the young talent in Philadelphia, so having him as the leader should be fine in the long run. That being said, this is not about Vick, but about Kolb. Where will he end up next season, since he will obviously be traded somewhere?
Here are 10 possible destinations for Kolb in 2011.
10. Cincinnati Bengals
1 of 10
No one mentions the Bengals as a possible destination for Kevin Kolb. I'm probably the first and there's a reason for that. They already have a QB in Carson Palmer.
However, with how stubborn management is there, if they think Palmer's sick of being there, they'll sooner bring in a good quarterback to create competition than get rid of him.
Does this make sense? No, but this is the Cincinnati Bengals we're talking about.
9. Seattle Seahawks
2 of 10
Like the Bengals, the Seahawks already have a quarterback in Matt Hasselbeck, so, why do I put this on as a possible destination? Hasselbeck has one year left on his deal, and quite frankly I'm convinced it will be his farewell tour in the NFL.
If Kolb is willing to wait one more year to be a starter, then he would start for the Seahawks in 2012. After all, Charlie Whitehurst is no NFL starting quarterback.
8. Cleveland Browns
3 of 10
I include this as a possible destination since Mel Kiper and others believe it to be so, though I can't see the Browns giving up on Colt McCoy already. The Browns haven't had a good quarterback since maybe Testaverde. Needless to say, that's a ways back.
If Mike Holmgren does take a look at Kevin Kolb and likes what he sees, though, there's certainly the possibility of bringing him in.
7. Buffalo Bills
4 of 10
This is a similar situation to Cleveland. The Bills haven't had a good quarterback in a long time and while Ryan Fitzpatrick is solid, he's not going to be an elite option. As a result, Buffalo may try to bring in Kolb and have the two fight it out.
The reason that it could work is I can't see Buffalo taking a quarterback high in the draft. Then again, if they want to mold a future QB like Pat Devlin and draft him in a later round, then they'll stick with Fitzpatrick for one more year and there would be no reason to get Kolb in that case.
6. Carolina Panthers
5 of 10
I don't know if the Panthers are looking for someone to compete with Clausen, since without Andrew Luck in the draft, they may just let him play a year and hope he improves. He probably won't, but it's an acceptable move that used to be the norm in the early NFL days.
Should the Panthers already be sick of Clausen, though, bringing in Kolb would at mean that he gets the opportunity to be a starter. His stats for his career are a lot better than Clausen's, so maybe that would work.
5. Miami Dolphins
6 of 10
This one is becoming more realistic in recent weeks. It's no question that Chad Henne has one foot out the door in Miami, and Kevin Kolb could be a serviceable replacement. If nothing else, it would be a good training camp battle.
This would work pretty well, as the Dolphins have passing targets, such as Brandon Marshall, and if they bring in Kevin Kolb, then they don't have to waste a first-round pick on a quarterback.
4. Arizona Cardinals
7 of 10
Kevin Kolb is most likely to end up somewhere where they are starting over and aren't crazy about the 2011 quarterback class. Arizona is a slightly different case, since while they badly need a quarterback, they have a head coach who's been there, as well as some talent, including Larry Fitzgerald.
That being said, it's tough to know what the Cards are doing in this case. Do they want to bring in a free-agent quarterback, let John Skelton play, or draft a quarterback?
I'm honestly not sure, and even if the answer is the first, I'm not sure if Kolb's at the top of Ken Whisenhunt's wish list, or Larry Fitzgerald's for that matter.
3. Tennessee Titans
8 of 10
Tennessee is the first of the top three teams that have a new coach and a new quarterback for 2011. As Kolb is looking for a fresh start, like these teams, he fits well on any of them. In the Tennessee Titans' case, they can deal quarterback Vince Young in a trade for Kolb, since he's clearly done in Tennessee.
Even without factoring that in, this could work. While the targets in Tennessee aren't that great, Kenny Britt and company are nonetheless reliable, and he would have one of the best running backs in the league, Chris Johnson, to help distract defenses.
2. San Francisco 49ers
9 of 10
The San Francisco 49ers quarterback job fits Kolb almost perfectly. Like the Titans job, San Francisco needs a new quarterback and head coach. They have their man in Jim Harbaugh, who can create great quarterbacks no question; just ask Andrew Luck.
As for targets, Michael Crabtree and Vernon Davis are very solid ones, and he wouldn't have to battle too many people for the starting job; he's definitely a better option than Alex Smith, Troy Smith or David Carr.
This could make the 49ers a lot better in a weak NFC West, and might even help them win the division like they were supposed to last season.
1. Minnesota Vikings
10 of 10
Kolb on the Vikings to me fits like a glove. They're bringing in a new coaching staff, but besides that vacant quarterback position, they have a lot of talent on both sides of the ball.
Adrian Peterson is easily one of the best running backs in the game when healthy and the receiving corps is excellent, with Percy Harvin, Sidney Rice and Visanthe Shaincoe all capable of big plays. Add in tough guys like Jared Allen, and Kevin Kolb could absolutely lead this team places.
The Vikings may have to give up their 12th pick to get Kolb. If they're planning on using the pick on Jake Locker, trade it and get Kolb. It'll be the best move they could make.
