2011 NFL Trade Rumors: 10 Trades Just Crazy Enough They Could Happen
There are some big names being rumored in the latest NFL trade buzz. This offseason we will see some interesting moves as teams shake things up.
Some of the moves may not surprise, but others could be shocking. There's always one team that makes a crazy deal leaving the fans wondering what just happened. Teams can get real trade happy around the Draft so be on the look out for that.
Several teams are looking for answers at the quarterback position and they may just want to trade for one. Or they could draft one and hope he isn't a bust.
Here are some predictions on where some players might be headed.
10. Brandon Jacobs to the Detroit Lions
1 of 10
If the Lions are serious about taking strides in the NFC North they'll need a better run game. They drafted Jahvid Best last year who looked good before getting injured. Best played hurt for most of the season.
The Lions could make this trade and be a serious contender in the NFC North. They would need Brandon Jacobs to play like he did before he got the mega contract.
The Giants face the question of re-signing Ahmad Bradshaw or letting him go. He had an impressive 2010 season so it's hard to believe they'll let him walk away. If they do re-sign him they might consider it's time for Jacobs to move on.
9. Kyle Orton to the San Francisco 49ers
2 of 10
The Broncos new head coach John Fox has a decision to make. Does he stick with a quarterback race or trade one away for some draft picks?
Tim Tebow became the starter at the end of the 2010 season and the Broncos may stick with him. Fox must decide which quarterback he wants and dump the other while they still have decent value.
Although it was another coach who selected Tebow I believe Fox continues with him. Kyle Orton will be on the move this offseason.
New head coach Jim Harbaugh may want to rebuild the 49ers to his liking. And this could mean a new quarterback. He has a top ten pick and could draft a quarterback.
Or Harbaugh could trade for one. Orton had a couple bad games this season but still put up solid numbers. Harbaugh could then play musical quarterbacks until he finds which one will work best in his system.
8. Steve Smith to the Cleveland Browns
3 of 10
The Browns desperately need offensive help. Steve Smith has been with the Panthers for too long and hasn't been getting anywhere as of late.
The Browns might consider drafting a a receiver but with the sixth pick, if A.J. Green isn't available it may be too risky to draft anyone else. Cleveland needs to think about trading for a veteran receiver.
The Carolina Panthers could use more draft picks, especially since they're rebuilding. It is time to part ways with their veteran receiver. Cleveland could also offer up one of their three decent quarterbacks because Carolina really needs some QB help.
7. Chad Johnson to the Oakland Raiders
4 of 10
Johnson's days as a Bengal could be getting shorter. He has been a huge diva for them over the years. And in that time he hasn't produced quality numbers.
The Bengals have a lot to think about this offseason. Their quarterback isn't happy and their two best receivers may not be rejoining them in 2011. Do they scrap everyone and start rebuilding? They could get some good draft picks or other position players by trading Johnson and Carson Palmer.
Al Davis will gladly take Johnson off Cincinnati's hands. His team doesn't have a number one receiver and Davis is known for taking risks on a number of players.
6. Larry Fitzgerald to the New England Patriots
5 of 10
If the Cardinals can land a veteran quarterback then Fitzgerald will probably stay put. After Kurt Warner retired and they traded Anquan Boldin, Fitzgerald knew he was all the team had left. He isn't going to want to stick around with a losing team when his contract ends after next season.
It will take a lot to get Fitzgerald because he is an extremely talented player. The Patriots have two first round picks and the first pick of the second round. If they put two of those together and some scrub players together that might be enough for the Cardinals to say yes.
Fitzgerald wants to win a title, and he knows it won't be with Arizona if the team doesn't surround him with some more talent.
5. Albert Haynesworth to the Tennessee Titans
6 of 10
Things just aren't working out in Washington. He got off on the wrong foot with head coach Mike Shanahan and their relationship never got any better.
Haynesworth was never happy in Washington and since they paid him tons of money he just sat back and watched it pile up. He's super rich so he felt he didn't need the Redskins.
Now is the time for the Redskins to move him. He isn't happy with the team and organization and nobody wants that guy around. Trade him away before teams realize he isn't worth anything.
His former team, the Titans, could bring him back and maybe then he'll start acting and playing like a real NFL professional. Then again, probably not.
4. Carson Palmer to the Miami Dolphins
7 of 10
Carson Palmer wants out of Cincinnati. Can you really blame him?
2010 was a disastrous season. Palmer has to satisfy two head cases in Terrell Owens and Chad Johnson. One or both receivers could be gone next season leaving Palmer with young inexperienced guys to throw to. Once again he would be unhappy.
The Bengals could trade Palmer and swap quarterbacks with the Dolphins. Or they could try and get Miami's 15th overall pick. Palmer is one of the top quarterbacks in the league and in order to trade him away, the Benglas are going to need a good offer.
Miami didn't do much with Chad Henne running the squad. They'll win some games and continue to be mediocre at best with Henne behind center. Making a trade for an elite quarterback will help them join their AFC East counter parts as the top teams in the league.
3. Kevin Kolb to the Minnesota Vikings
8 of 10
A year ago Andy Reid was getting rid of his quarterback. And this year isn't any different. Reid believed it would be Kevin Kolb who would push them to the top of the NFC. Kolb went down with an injury and Michael Vick took his second chance and ran with it.
Vick was the comeback player of the year and led the Eagles to first place in the NFC East division. Reid knows he can't keep both quarterbacks. The Eagles placed the franchise tag on Vick and will now listen to offers about Kevin Kolb.
Kolb is a big name on the market right now but is he really worth going after? He hasn't had the chance to really show he can compete as a true NFL starter because of injuries and players above him.
The Vikings need a quarterback. Brett Favre is gone and Minnesota shouldn't use their draft pick on a quarterback. Adding a rookie to an already young group of QBs would be a terrible idea.
Trading for Kevin Kolb would give the team hope right away.
2. Donovan McNabb to the Arizona Cardinals
9 of 10
McNabb didn't want to go to Washington. Nor does he really want to stay their either. It's obvious Mike Shanahan doesn't see McNabb as helping the team out. Or maybe McNabb was just fed up playing for a terrible team. After all, he was on a pretty good Eagles team that dumped him like that.
The Arizona Cardinals need to go after a veteran quarterback. Their last veteran QB led them to the Super Bowl. They weren't the same when Kurt Warner retired. If the Cardinals can upgrade their quarterback position it will make their franchise player Larry Fitzgerald very happy.
Also, McNabb does own a house in Arizona.
1. Vince Young to the Washington Redskins
10 of 10
Tennessee wants to trade Vince Young. A month ago we thought it was the head coach or the quarterback. Bud Adams said they would part ways with Vince Young. We thought the head coach had won. Now with Jeff Fisher out, nobody knows who has won.
I believe the Titans have lost. Bud Adams may regret getting rid of both guys.
The Redskins know Donovan McNabb is not the answer for them. Things didn't work out this year and keeping him would cause issues down the road. Trading him away is the best option for the team. If they don't do a player swap here they could trade McNabb to another team.
Young is only 27 years old and is 30-17 in his five years in the league. The Redskins need a quarterback for their future, and Vince Young can give them that.
